  1. The odds of finishing top 4 are exactly the same for the bottom 3 teams and they're 4 games clear of OKC. Winning some games down the stretch isn't going to effect their lottery odds at all unless they go on some crazy run and jump some other teams.
  2. You're really worried about this? The odds of finishing top 4 are exactly the same for the bottom 3 teams and the Pistons are firmly entrenched in the bottom 3. 5-7 doesn't really make much of a difference in this draft, or most drafts for that matter. It'll all come down to the lottery balls wherever they finish. It's good for the future that they're starting to come together. Bey, Stewart, Cade (although highly inconsistent), Diallo and even Hayes in certain aspects are showing real growth and the team is fun to watch. If they get some wins along the way all the more better because, as I mentioned with the lottery odds, it doesn't make much of a difference anyway. They executed the tank already with the poor record in the first 60 games.
  3. I'd be shocked, really shocked, if they get Williams straight up for Grant, never mind all the other stuff added in. Lets face it, Grant isn't getting traded tomorrow. It's more than likely that Weaver values him higher than the rest of the league does and since Grant chose "the black city, the black GM and black coach" as reasons for signing with Detroit, I have a feeling that Weaver takes that very seriously and will let his personal feelings dictate what to do with Grant as opposed to what is a smart business decision. Weaver kept Rose too long for similar reasons, because Rose CHOSE to be here. Not a smart way to GM but that's just me.
  4. Franchise QB wins zero playoff games with Lions, franchise QB goes to Superbowl the moment he leaves the Lions. If this isn't the most SOL thing to ever happen, I don't know what it is. Congrats to Matt but my god does it suck to be a Lions fan and tonight was just another big swift kick in the balls to Lions fans everywhere.
  5. A couple of role players with modest upside and a mid to late 1st? Nah If that's the best offer Weaver can get in this sellers market then just keep him and reassess in the offseason. I'm not a big Grant fan but I don't think they should trade him just for the sake of trading him. I get the arguments for Grant not being a great fit for the team anymore and not being worth his next extension but I feel like that Minnesota package would be selling somewhat low considering the way the market is shaping up.
  6. Yep, it was Holmes best move to date.
  7. Philly says, hell no. Ben Simmons probably says no as well. Good for Detroit though I'm not sure we'll see Grant traded. I have a feeling it's one of those situations with Weaver fielding offers but not really wanting to trade him unless it's an offer that blows him away. I think this is THE opportunity to maximize his value because I don't think his value will ever be higher than it is right now with it being a hot sellers market but I wouldn't want Weaver trading him for less than optimal value either.
  8. Most of us said that Stafford wasn't the problem here and will start winning important games the moment he leaves this franchise. There were only a few posters who put most of the blame on him for the lack of team success. Stafford was the only thing keeping the last decade from being possibly worse than the Millen era.
  9. No it's not and I'm ok with this season as a whole considering expectations but it just gets magnified how sad it is that we're considering a 3 win season somewhat of a success when the franchise QB they failed for 12 seasons goes to the NFC Championship in his 1st season away from this toxic place. I'm happy for Stafford but it's just more pain for Lions fans.
  10. Just goes to show what a disgrace the Lions franchise is and continues to be. Zero playoff wins in 12 seasons, absolutely destroys two playoff teams the season after he's freed from the Lions while the Lions are holding locker room celebrations for a 3 win season.
  11. Yes and there were also mocks of Fields going to the Lions at 7. Lance wasn't the clear 4th QB leading up to the draft. The only thing clear was Lawrence going 1st and Wilson going 2nd. It was muddied after that. I agree that the trade was a surprise but there was a lot more trade up chatter last year because the QB was significantly better so I wouldn't use that trade as a benchmark for what the Lions could get for the 2nd pick. As I said before, this seems more like the Okudah draft where the Lions are in a spot that doesn't appear to be a viable trade up spot. I'm sure there will be some rumors leading up to the draft, as always, but I don't see much motivation for teams to trade up that high in the draft.
  12. This isn't really true though. It was Lawrence at 1, Wilson at 2 and Lance or Fields as a toss up for 3rd QB taken with Jones sneaking up late. There was tons of chatter of teams looking to trade up for months before the draft hit. The QB desire in this draft isn't even in the same stratosphere even when comparing the top QB on the board to the 5th QB on the board last year so I can't imagine that the 2nd pick has near the value of what the 3rd pick had last year. Of course this could change as we near the draft but based on what we know now, no QB seems desirable enough to give up a big haul for. It's similar to the Okudah draft in a way. The Lions have that high pick but does anybody REALLY want it? And that was a draft with higher regarded QBs.
  13. The big difference is that Lance was a far better prospect than any in this draft and this draft is unique in the sense that there are no QB prospects that are considered surefire top 10 picks (when was the last time this was the case?). It's why I don't take those trade value charts seriously because it doesn't take into account situational value. Of course, the valuation of prospects can vary wildly from team to team but if the scouting consensus is any indication, I don't see it being in any way realistic that Philly would offer 3 1sts (mid 1sts in this case) for #2 but crazier shit has happened so who knows.
  14. I guess it's because people are desperate to find a QB, any QB, that can be elite in this class but I don't get the Pickett hype. He seems like a pretty generic QB to me, nice arm but nothing special, decent mobility but not a burner by any means, decent size, pretty good accuracy, tiny hands. These physical traits can also describe Burrow although Burrow's accuracy is deadly accurate but he's a rare breed. I think Pickett could be good but I don't see elite upside even if all goes well with his development whereas guys like Corral and Willis are higher risk but have higher upside IMO.
  15. 3 picks in the mid teens is a massive overpay for #2 in this draft. I think it's completely unrealistic that the Eagles would offer all three of their 1sts for that pick in a draft without an elite QB prospect. IF the Eagles offer that, you run away laughing. Maybe it's possible that the Eagles love a QB more than just about everybody else does and is willing to offer a haul for #2 but I think it's pretty unrealistic.
  16. 4-2 in the New Year all without Grant with the young guys driving it (namely Bey and Diallo who have flourished without Grant). I keep repeating myself but I don't see the point in keeping Grant anymore and in fact, I think his return might stunt growth if anything. Sell High Troy, you have a month to do the right thing.
  17. You are looking way too deeply into this. It's a drop from #1 to #2 in a draft with no true #1 prospect and as I mentioned before, arguably their 3 best players in franchise history were drafted at 2,2 and 3 so the difference is negligible. Yeah, this also drops them 1 spot in every other round that they have a pick but so what, they shouldn't need to be 1 pick higher if they have good scouting. In any event, I'm enjoying watching the wins of an enthusiastic young team playing for an enthusiastic young coach. It's been such a miserable 3 seasons prior to this one so it's nice to see my favorite team enjoy playing football again. I think it bodes well going forward that they're competing against much more talented teams and winning some of these games with an undermanned group. You think it means nothing, I think it means something. We'll just have to agree to disagree then.
  18. Because it's good for the morale of the young players and coaches. Go tell the players in that locker room post game when they were having a good time enjoying the win that it meant nothing. When you have a young team like this, with a young coaching staff that's in the very beginning of a rebuild, winning is important. Also, the Lions drafted arguably the 3 best players in franchise history at 2,2 and 3. Chances are that the Jags could take an offensive tackle anyway leaving the Lions their #1 choice. Winning, especially for the reasons I mentioned above, should never be frowned upon especially in a draft where there's no true #1 prospect.
  19. He would have been here whether he earned it or not because of financial reasons. Interestingly, he took off when Campbell (the meathead who has no brains apparently) took over the playcalling duties. 11 TDs and 2 INTs in that timeframe. I'm still not sold on him as a long term solution but give him some more weapons in the pass game and lets see how he does, they already have the offensive line, running backs and tight end to support him.
  20. And they got Suh and Barry with the 3rd pick. It's absurd to say that winning this game is some kind of franchise crippling move especially in a draft with no surefire #1 pick. Please. I also wouldn't be shocked if Jacksonville went offensive tackle leaving the Lions with their choice of pass rusher. Anyway, I actually enjoyed this season more than I thought I would. The team was battling every week and ended on a high note. Now they have a bunch of high picks and a lot of cap space to work with and I bet the way they ended the season and the overall appeal of playing for a guy like Dan Campbell will draw some free agent attention. It's going to be an interesting offseason in which I think the Lions can potentially build a roster that can make a pretty significant jump forward next season. Not playoffs necessarily but I'd put the expectation at 6-7 wins minimum depending on how the offseason goes.
  21. The Pistons are better without Grant. Ball movement is crisper, defense is tighter, the young guys (Bey and Diallo) specifically aren't stifled anymore. Grant has some good qualities, he can be a game changer when his offense is on, but Weaver needs to strike while the iron is hot and trade him while his value is still high.
  22. I've never really liked Goff so there might be some bias on my part. He's skinny, turnover prone, has small hands that effect his grip and leads to those turnovers and he's pretty much toast when there's any semblance of pressure on him because of his limited mobility. He's not without good qualities as he has a good arm, is deadly accurate with the intermediate throws when he was time to throw and he seems to be a pretty good leader but he's the type of QB that you need to build an elite supporting cast around to win with. Funny enough, the Lions are building the type of team that should cater to his strengths with the strong offensive line, solid running game and promising tight end but I've never been a big fan of glorified game managers. Never really liked the Alex Smiths and Jimmy Garapolos of the world even though those guys have won a lot of games. I know, it's a weird thing for me to say considering that Goff and Garapolo both led their teams to the Super Bowl and Smith won a lot of games but I see those as exceptions, not the norm for QBs of this ilk. In any event, even though I'm not a big Goff fan, even I can admit that it's unfair to properly evaluate him this season. I'd assume that the Lions will add two top 3 level receivers at minimum in the draft and free agency so no more excuses for Goff next season, Ragnow will assumably be healthy and Decker for most of the season so he'll have help. This will be a player right smack dab in the middle of his prime who should have a good supporting cast of players to work with so it's do or die time for him next season I'd think. If he is in the "do" category, the Lions should make a sizeable jump in the standings and if it's "die" then the Lions should be in position to take a premier QB in the draft or at least have the ammo to trade up for one.
  23. You can't just draft a QB just to draft a QB. I'm not a Goff believer either but he's going to get a chance to prove himself next season, whether we like it or not, with presumably enough weapons around him to make a proper assessment so they can punt drafting a QB to next draft with one of the higher picks if they don't like one in the 1st or 2nd this draft. Furthermore, QBs from Round 3 on down are pretty much wasted picks as opposed to other positions where you have a much higher likelihood to find a long term starter in the middle rounds. I'd be fine if they took a flier on one with the Rams pick or the 2nd, one that they REALLY liked. Beyond that? Forget it. Not worth it.
  24. Running back and tight end (although a little added depth there couldn't hurt) are pretty set. I wouldn't invest any high picks on defensive tackle either unless a big faller falls into their laps. Assuming no clear and obvious BPA's, I'm not drafting an offensive lineman, tight end, running back or defensive tackle with any of the first 5 picks. Load up on playmakers. Receivers, linebackers, safeties/corners, pass rushers and perhaps a QB. I guess I wouldn't hate it if they took a guard with one of the 3rds if it was a no brainer, guy fell into our laps situation.
  25. An inconsistent young player who might not even want to re-sign here, a young player who has had a good half season, a struggling young player who will be coming off of a serious injury and two undrafted free agents. Your definition of "set" is a whole lot different than mine. These guys are showing some promise but the Lions still need a lot of secondary help. Wide Receiver and Safety are arguably their two biggest needs with Linebacker being a contender for top need.
