Week Eighteen: Detroit Lions (8-8) @ Green Bay Packers (8-8)

Yep, 100%. You know that the Niners are, for one. -

Maybe I'm crazy but I feel like this Lions team could have made a Superbowl run. Perhaps too ambitious and we'll never know but they have a team built for playoff football and a ton of belief. Too bad that Mayfield has a noodle arm and that the refs decided to call a couple of phantom calls against the Rams. -

Yeah, this. Even moreso than now 3 hours later. -

Take that SOL shit and shoot it into the sun. This team is for real folks, these guys are going to get better with experience and they're going to add substantially to the talent base in the draft and free agency. BNL -

Eh, I was disappointed for a bit after the result but this has been a great season, they have a chance to ruin the Packers season and it's a big offseason with lots of resources to significantly improve the roster. This is the most hopeful I've been for the franchise's future since..... well....ever. -

I have no hope now. The Rams let them off the mat. -

This half has gone as well as can be expected, and the Rams get the ball first to start the second half. -

I disagree. I'm more worried about the Lions run defense in a cold weather game, and their ability to run the ball on the road, but... agree to disagree. Rodgers is always a worry but this isn't MVP Rodgers anymore. -

The Lions were missing a bunch of guys in the last Green Bay game as well. Rodgers hasn't seen Da Problem yet to name a big one. Watson played the Detroit game btw, he just hadn't broken out yet. In any event, I'm more worried about the Lions defense against the Packers running game, in the cold, than Rodgers torching them. The Lions will need to run the ball and control the clock to have a chance, it'll be really tough to win in that environment without a stout running game and/or being able to stop the run. -

It's kind of crazy how impactful Duren is already and he just turned 19. He needs to develop an away from the basket game like Bam Adebayo has but he is on one heck of a trajectory. Imagine this guy at 23-25 years old? -

Casey is a horrible in game coach. This has been a given for years going back to Toronto. Decent development coach, his guys play hard for him but his teams continually have no real systems. He's the perfect tank coach really so until they start becoming serious about winning, he'll be the guy. Hopefully that means that he gets moved to a different role in the organization after this season since we know he won't be removed from the organization completely. -

Yes, that would make more sense and seems like the more likely outcome although "sense" doesn't always apply with the NFL so I can see them trying to force a midweek rescheduling. I do know that pushing back week 17 another week will not happen. -

Can't seem them doing that, it would cause too many complications with venues, sponsors etc. What they should do is either declare the game a tie or reschedule for the middle of this week if the coaches/players are up to it (doiubtful) -

Yep, was just going to say that. He's playing for an opportunity next season so you know he'll come out guns blazing, plus you know Ramsey will be fired up to play against his buddy Metcalf. The Seahawks are also missing their top tackler in Brooks and Lockett is banged up. I wouldn't call it 50/50 but the Rams have a decent shot to win that game. The Seahawks are vulnerable. -
Week Seventeen: Chicago Bears (3-12) @ Detroit Lions (7-8)

No, the Packers win and they're in. A Seahawks win only eliminates the Lions. The Lions will either have playoffs to play for or an opportunity to spoil it for the Packers. The game will mean something either way. -

NYLion replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
Green Bay is the only team of the three that controls their own destiny, believe it or not. The Lions need a Seahawks loss and the Seahawks need a Packers loss. At the very least, the Lions will have an opportunity to play spoiler. -

If Lions-Packers is a win and in game, I have little doubt that it'll be the Sunday Night game but if the Seahawks win today, I have no idea how they stagger the schedule since that game could be meaningless by Sunday night. If the Jets and Packers win today, I'd be shocked if Lions-Packers wasn't Sunday Night. I'm sure Titans-Jags will be Saturday night. -

That was a very "Brand New Lions" type of game. I know the Bears are terrible but the SOL wouldn't have bounced back that quickly after a thrashing in a meaningful game. Now we root for the Jets or, gulp, Rams and let the chips falls where they may. Either way, the Lions are playing with house money. An 8 win season at minimum is a pretty big success in Year 2 of the rebuild. -

Based on what we know about Holmes, I don't think he's focused on positional need as much as he's focused on BPA. Sewell wasn't the biggest need then he double dipped on D-Linemen with back to back picks and thank god he took McNeil after the Levi disaster. He then traded up for Jamo when there were more pressing needs because he's a gamebreaker. Based on this philosophy, I wouldn't be shocked if Holmes took somebody like Bijan Robinson, if he's still there, with the second 1st to complete the offense because he's a game breaking talent and arguably one of the best RB prospects to come out in years so while DT and CB are the two biggest needs, I would be a bit surprised if Holmes picked those two positions on Day 1 simply due to need. -
Yes. Next question

Week Sixteen: Detroit Lions (7-7) @ Carolina Panthers (5-9)
NYLion replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
That's my biggest concern as well. They just didn't bring any effort to this game as if they have no interest in playing in the cold. It's imperative that they at least show effort and play well the last two games or else that 6-1 stretch will mean virtually nothing. -
Week Sixteen: Detroit Lions (7-7) @ Carolina Panthers (5-9)
NYLion replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
It can't happen in a must win game, says a lot about the character of the team. It's not that they're losing, they aren't even close to making a play and the effort has been pathetic. This is one of the worst games I've ever seen a Lions team play and there's A LOT to choose from, that should never be acceptable or chalked up to as "one of those games" IMO. -

Sorry but does giving up 240 yards rushing in a half appear in the realm of realism? -

It seems like the Lions are showing their true colors today. Yikes -
Apparently Wilson is playing in the Rams game. Not sure if that's a good thing or not. It's going to be tough for the Rams to win either of the last two games even with Seattle freefalling so this Denver game is huge for draft position, to say the least. It could be an interesting dilemma in the final week between rooting for a playoff spot or better draft position depending on how things shake out. Obviously playoffs is the higher priority but it'll just be interesting to see where positioning stands at this point.
