  1. What is the probability that Clemens makes his ML debut this year?
  2. There's nothing here saying they are locked in, and they are usually up-to-date (already shows Eduardo Rodriguez contract). https://legacy.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/american-league/detroit-tigers/
  3. I really thought we'd see this more often after Scherzer's signing.
  4. That's how Cabrera's current contract is structured. He has 8 guaranteed years with 2 team options that are guaranteed if he finished in the top 10 MVP voting. The Tigers can buyout the last 2 years at $8 million.
  5. Classic buy low, sell high move. Dombroski did a similar thing in 2015 when he was traded Price, Soria, and Cespedes. He was starting the rebuild, but Ilitch made a last ditch effort in 2016 when they signed Zimmermann, Pelfrey, and Upton. I often wonder how much shorter the rebuild would have gone under Dombrowski and if 2016 didn't cost the Tigers more losing seasons in the future.
  6. The only thing I question about Verlander is his stamina. Would he be open to accepting a closer's role, like John Smoltz did after having Tommy John surgery?
  7. I'm not advocating a Freddie Freeman type signing, but a utility player or a minor league signing that has the ability to play 1B (as well as other positions for flexibility). They tried Renato Nunez last year and it didn't work out. Why not someone like Brad Miller for about 3-4 million? He can play 1B until Tork is ready to take over mid-season and Miller becomes a utility player. If he is too expensive, try to get Marwin Gonzalez or Asdrubal Cabrera on a minor league deal and see how they do in ST. I just think it's a terrible idea to have Schoop keep moving back and forth from 2B to 1B, and I want more depth in case Tork doesn't work out.
  8. It's overpriced if you can't even keep it down. Literally flushing money down the toilet and having a bad experience of upchucking. Worst pizza I've ever had. 0/5, I do not recommend.
  9. I would like them to get a real first baseman instead of moving Schoop there and using Willi Castro/Isaac Paredes at 2B. I know that they are keeping the spot open for Torkelson, but they shouldn't be relying on him to contribute this year. I hate giving a prospect a starting job when he has proven nothing at the ML level.
  10. You don't know how to play first base? It's not that hard, tell 'em Wash.
  11. Tyler Alexander was a 2nd round draft pick and I don't think we give enough credit to how well he has performed.
  12. Another title? How about a title? Because in order to see another title, you have to see at least one title first.
  13. I don't remember the 1975 Red Sox because I wasn't born yet.
  14. Just look at 2021. The Braves had the lowest number of wins of any playoff team, including the wild card spots. Heck, they didn't even get over .500 until August 8th.
  15. There's no way to tell if the Cards would have won a World Series in that timeframe with Pujols. So what measures are we supposed to use if it was the "right" or "wrong" decision?
  16. Edit: I guess animated gifs don't work.
  17. But I bet their fans are happier with their performance.
  18. Would it really have been so bad if the Tigers lost Cabrera due to Free Agency? Let's take a look at another future Hall of Famer, Albert Pujols. The Cardinals decided to let him go after the 2011 season and have been above .500 in each year of the 10 years since, only missing the playoffs in 3 of those years. The Tigers have only had one season above .500 since Cabrera's 10-year deal went into effect. No one player is above the team.
  19. When Victor Martinez gets injured and misses a whole year, the only solution is to sign Prince Fielder to a 9-year, $214 MM deal.
  20. Well, Miggy has always had an injury history. When he was younger, he was able to play through them. Who knows how much that has hurt him when he got older? Not to mention the age difference. Miggy's first 8-year deal was a steal.
  21. If the Tigers fail to sign one of those guys, Al Avila needs to get fired.
  22. Honus Wagner hasn't played in 104 years, how good could he be now?
  23. The Tigers made several moves today: - Exercised Tucker Barnhart's option - Reinstated Rony Garcia, Spencer Turnbull, and Jake Rogers from the 60 day DL. - Added Elvin Rodriguez to the 40-man roster. This puts the Tigers 40-man roster at exactly 40, which means they have no room for a Rule 5 draft pick at this time.
  24. Yeah, I was just reading up on this. Teams will only lose their 2nd highest pick when signing a free agent (so a team will only lose a first round pick if they have 2 of them). If a team receives money due to revenue sharing, the highest draft pick they'll lose is their 3rd, which I believe is the case for the Tigers.
