20234-24 14-68. Now what? (The 2024 Offseason thread)
Deleterious replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Pistons
You might want to look at that years #7 pick to see a big reason they haven't won. It was a good move because it immediately brought talent in for very little cost. They still haven't given up a pick for him, and might not ever give up a first. It is amazing value and something you do 100 times out of 100. I was a bit concerned about not being able to trade future firsts, but once I learned you can do the pick swaps that concern went away. After Cade, Stewart was the best draft pick of Weavers. I get that is a low bar. -

Stewart was such a good trade. Outside of Cade he might be the only other rotation player we have. Well, Fontecchio looks decent as well. -
Pass on both. Rumor was NO wanted to move off of Ingram. I hope Langdon was part of that group.

I already answered most of this. Atkinson took a team that should have won 25 games and made the playoffs. I also like he has been on Kerr's bench since then. I don't know much about Quinn except he is highly respected and sits next to Spo. Hiring a first time HC is always a crap shoot.

That doesn't seem like something you call the police about.

The report yesterday was he wants a 4 year deal. But LAC was only offering 3 years at $150M. No clue how he turns that down, but OK.

You don't lose over 80% of your games if you have talent. The Pistons added a guy who was the #7 pick, was cut in year 4, and nobody picked him up. Think about that. Every single contender in the league wants depth. Every team can sign a guy to a vets minimum. Nobody touched him. Duren and Ivey are not that level of bad, but Pistons fan really overrate them. Cleveland made a big jump the year they drafted Mobley and traded for Markkenan. Then they just flatlined, even after obtaining Mitchell. He hasn't molded anything. Garland is lazy and doesn't play D. Mitchell is a decent offensive player, but brutal on D. When Drummond was there, they tried to run the offense through him. Totally misuses Mobley. Not a lot of accountability for certain players. Actually, he does sound like a Pistons coach.

I posted he ****ed a 15 year old. That has nothing to do with his basketball skills. And I'm not saying he is a star, just a better or at least equal to an overrated Caruso. Maybe they should have traded him at the deadline. But that has no bearing on this trade. Chicago did good for what Caruso is worth now.

Yep. People are basing their reactions off of last years offers. Like Sam said, you pay more for two playoff runs than you do for one. Giddey is a top 3 pick in this draft easy. Bulls got good value and filled a need with a young player with potential. They did fine.

Who knows. Those rumors came long before Langdon was hired. -
They were offered a top 10 pick this year for him. Giddey is better than that. They got a 21 year old starter for a 30 year old career backup. Big win for Chicago. Especially for a team that doesn't have a true distributor. And he was sat for his defense. He shot 35% from three in the playoffs, which is more than fine.

One bullet dodged. -
It's that or pay the extremely over rated Caruso. I would pay Giddey 10 times out of 10. Especially if that shot continues to improve. Caruso is like Bruce Brown. Nice on a cheap deal. A disaster at $20m plus.

Piston fans say he turned it around. Others say they just kept adding talent. Sexton and Garland were both there, Allen too I think. Added Mobley the next year. You know, a proper rebuild. Their offense was terrible. He completely misused Mobley by trying to make him a back to the basket big. He thrives facing up. But his biggest problem was losing the locker room. It's instantly over for any coach that does that.

I can't get the tweet to post. But ESPN saying Detroit had permission to interview Dallas assistant Sean Sweeney and Minnesota assistant Micah Nori. They are also supposed to interview JB Bickerstaff. Bickerstaff is terrible. He would be a disaster.

Some good news. The Lakers hired JJ. I was a bit worried the pistons would get involved in that.

Rim protecting center that can switch on the perimeter. Offense is basically limited to being a lob threat. -

In 12 months the Pistons have fired two different CoY winners, one of them won it twice. -
I thought Detroit was a great job for a new GM. It is a terrible job for a new coach. Least amount of talent in the league. High draft picks management will want played even tho they are bad. Rookie GM with no prior experience. Big pass if I'm an up and coming assistant.
