I think what a lot of people forget is the Skubal had an experimental procedure on his elbow 2 months ago. I am absolutely sure that caused some teams to hesitate. The Dodgers are used to injured arms and fine with that risk and giving up that value.

Pretty close to the return, the return we got was better than I expected.

I think the fact he is shown as a prospect is also throwing people through a loop when it would be like calling Jobe still a prospect.

Just woke up to the news. I'm perfectly happy with this return for 2 months of Skubal. You get Ryan who may or may not see Detroit this year but will for sure next year slotting either into the rotation or becomes your closer, Hope is 21 OF with power, he is definitely my least favorite of the big 4 but he's still a good get. Smith is a lottery ticket (aren't they all?). So you got a 55FV, 50FV, and a 40+FV according to Fangraphs. That's certainly better than a comp pick. Hope is probably your RF next year at least at some point. He has a good arm and is capable of playing CF. Him, Clark, and Riley playing together should be a solid defensive outfield.

All the things I have seen is the expectation should be a back half top 100 prospect at the very least because the Tigers could just hold on and get a comp pick in the draft next year so it has to be better value than that.

I mean they did the same thing for Flaherty the year he was traded to the Dodgers so it's not unprecedented but agreed.
