  1. So there was a cop on the scene when this started and at least 7 still perished before the 'good guy with a gun' could engage the situation. The sane members of society need tell the gun nuts to just STFU with their asinine argument that enough guns in the 'right' hands is anything more than total lunacy as a method for acheiving public security - it's being disproven with tragic results almost daily now.
  2. Most of the of data we have today was not collected in any organized way before the financial restructuring in the wake of '29 crash. At best the data prior to that is yearly estimates instead of quarterly so today's 2 quarter contraction definition can't be properly applied. Wikipedia's statement about '26-'27 is that when Ford shut down Model T production completely for more than a year to build the Rouge Plant for the Model A, that it was probalby enough by itself to have created a contraction.
  3. Dan seems to do alright extending commentaries through multiple batters. Plus on the radio, on pitches that are not hit, which is most of them, the listener has no idea if Dan is giving the pitch in exact real time so it's pretty easy to slide a few seconds here and there to finish a thought and when I listen to him while watching the video - he does exactly that. It is probably tougher for the TV guys to work around each other - or it should be, but we know Bally is all too happy to miss a play in field while Trevor or the guys in booth are mugging for the camera and yukking it up.
  4. Faedo hasn't gone more than 4 inning this season. Going to be more BP work tomorrow.
  5. Tigers needed 43 games to win 15 last season. 11 games ahead of that pace
  6. Short is the quintessential 4A hitter. Can feast at AAA, can't do much of anything at MLB.
  7. Maybe Diaz and Faedo both make the trip from Toledo to StL
  8. Pretty fabulous play by Short and Torkelson - too bad it still wasn't enough.
  9. Hinch playing double or nothing. Cisner will ether get a K or give up a dinger.
  10. Terrible play. Don't know what Hinch is arguing - you *can* still block the plate if you already have the ball, and he did.
  11. He and Dickerson are starting to develop a nice raport though - there is some potential for them to work into a good team.
  12. TorX swinging at the 1st pitch. See ball - hit ball.
  13. The problem with a pitcher as color is that pitching tends to be only thing they talk about. Petry tends to this side - plus it's disappointing he doesn't fix his verbal 'ya know' tic. It's not that hard to do if you are at all serious about doing the job well. Morris, for all his other faults did at least talk about position play a little. Catcher - a la Jim Price - is probably the best you can do if it's going to be an ex-player. Close to the pitching but still has a hitter's perspective.
  14. this is not even the first phosphorus attack by RF of this conflict.
  15. Channeling your inner Tim McCarver?
  16. Wait. You mean Kansas City isn't in KANSAS? Whose dumb idea is that?
  17. yup - In fact I'd say in general one of the reasons that so few guys throw the curve anymore is that so many umps don't give the pitcher the whole K zone on a good curve.
  18. He looked like he actually laughing to himself as he turned back toward the plate after the ejection.
  19. you've got to be kidding me. Team can't score 70% of the league average runs but they have two 4 game winning streaks in 31 games. go figure.
  20. The ump is probably right on these calls. A curve is falling rapidly as it crosses the plate. That fact that the catcher catches it below the box doesn't mean it's not a strike.
  21. Haase a little too anxious in the last couple of AB. Ump doesn't give Lange the 1st perfect pitch.
