  1. Lets the purges begin, what will follow is that Russian society will slide further toward immobility and economic irrelevance.
  2. 94 probably sees as much truck traffic as it does in part because i-80 is toll. Put a toll on 94, you'd probably reduce traffic because cross country routes would lose any motivation to ever come north. That would not be a bad thing in most people's view I think! The absence of toll roads in MI has a long (and probably now obsolete) history. Of course the auto-plants didn't want them, and that is probably the biggest reason, but back in the 40's 50's and 60's, when the road nets were being planned but railroads were still a thing, there was an arg that since MI was a peninsula, we had poorer cross state rail connections than other states so it was only 'fair' that we not have toll roads since there were fewer shipping/travel alternatives. That seems a quaint arg today, but I remember it being a pretty stock political talking point when I was young - so that is a little bit of how we got to where we are.
  3. you can turn off location services on an IOS/MACOS device. You would think that would make a difference, but maybe not....Haven't tried it.
  4. I'm guessing you have guessed right.
  5. sure, as long as the VPN was located outside the blackout area. If you are buying VPN service expressly to avoid a sports blackout, that is what you are looking for, but just because it's a VPN doesn't necessarily mean it's somewhere else. My employer runs a VPN I have access to, but it's hosted here. It wouldn't do me any good for watching MLB.
  6. better read would be, "Won't bring stability to Putin's regime"
  7. maybe go to the ticket site and see if you can buy a ticket to the 2nd game?
  8. Jeez, Lee's already written one book, you expect him to write another here?
  9. that was a pretty nice swing on the triple - rotation right down to his feet. That swing was not the Reyes of 2 yrs ago. It remains to be seen if it makes any difference to the bottom line OPS, but he certainly looks like he's giving himself a much better chance at driving the ball now. And Cabrera scored from 1st!
  10. But he'd have to know something about another country to know he said that.
  11. One the scale of issues with a JOTSC, retirement choices are pretty small potatoes on any side. For all we know Kennedy tried to cut such a deal because he was worried about Trump nominating someone crazier. But the fact is that the sitting Judge has no leverage. POTUS can walk away from any kind of understanding once a retirement is announced and the existing judge can't do squat - can't even go public without looking like.....a conniver! So it's a bit of red herring to argue that a retiring judge was very responsible for anything more than his own retirement.
  12. you say that as if there were a bad argument for scrapping the electoral college......() ( yeah, I know I argued in the past that winner take all by state has the positive effect of clarifying victories, but the population imbalance and the thus the loss of a true democratic outcome has just gotten too bad for that to matter enough....)
  13. I truly believe that in another misguided dictat from the commissioner's office, the umps have been instructed to call more strikes to "move the game along - nobody likes walks" so the guys with the plate discipline to force a pitcher to make good pitchers are the ones getting screwed. So instead of men on base we get more K's and more incentive to swing for the fences.
  14. well, I just read a take on Marbury v Madison that argued that John Marshall connived to get the case to the court and likely suborned his brother's perjury to make sure the case went forward. Enough clay feet to go around!
  15. for whatever reason, it's getting worse. Apparently not enough enough guys interested in becoming umps to be able weed out all the ones that should never make to the majors. Candelario has been absolutely jobbed at in at least 2 AB already so far. But the great thing is that at least now Tork can look at this himself and know that he can stay the course rather than worry about needing to change his approach.
  16. And we wouldn't find out Reyes has turned into a star.... ....Ok, we probably won't find that out either way.......
  17. I remember when Verlander was a young ace, and the Tigers lost his first start in 2007, 2008, 2009...
  18. Likewise 7 of 9 for the centers in the 60 were just Wilt.
  19. I think someone once said "Wisdom is justified of all her children" --
  20. did Ginsburg make public appearances with Obama or Biden? I'd say there was at least another mile between giving an opinion and making joint appearances or doing photo-ops that imply outright campaigning. Again, this is pretty pure and non-equivalent whataboutism. Thomas has been out there with Ginni being a *political* advocate in public throughout his tenure in a way that leaves the average justice in the dust - that just is what it is.
  21. yeah - Gil Brandt already got hammered with the 'don't speak ill of the dead' backlash, but at minimum, the circumstances are outre'
  22. yeah, I think events have proved pretty conclusively that she was right, and truth is supposed to be the absolute defense, is it not? I certainly wouldn't want to die on the hill of arguing Herschel Walker wouldn't be bad for the US Senate either.
  23. what if his previous managers only batted him third against bad left-handers? Stat would be be pretty meaningless then. There is always an issue of relying on statistics when you really have no idea what they are telling you.
  24. depends how old. I think it's been a long time since people dressed to go to a ball game, at least before our lifetimes, but on the other hand, when I was a kid, mostly people still dressed up to go to a Red Wings game. Why the traditional of dressing up lasted longer in hockey I couldn't say.
