  1. There's a decent chance Manning struggles and then they have an easy decision. Of course, we should also take Alexander's success with a grain of salt. His lack of velocity may start playing a lot worse once he's facing hitters with 50+ ABs. Hopefully not, but I think that is a definite possibility.
  2. It would be nice if Baddoo became half the fielder Curtis was. He was pretty good until he started to lose his wheels, which is all you can ask of a CF.
  3. Couldn't say, haven't seen SNL in probably 20 yrs. But at least as I remember it the difference would be that SNL doesn't (at least in general) turn around 5 min later and ask you take them seriously. To me that is where the subtle intellectual hazard/conditioning lies. >It's the F.U. politics I don't listen to country music but I think I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was caught captive in a public space where it was playing and was sort of blown away because it was like a constant 30 min of "FU if you don't buy my version of Amerika" lyrics. Yeah - it's everywhere.
  4. There was an argument to make before this started that war *could* have been worse than capitulation for the Ukrainian people *IF* the Ukrainian people didn't care that much about their government and were being dragged into it by anti-Russian minority element. That could have been the kind of charge to level against neo-con-ism as it was in Iraq. But at this point, the War in Ukraine has shown itself to have nothing to do with the kind of neo-con motivated nation building project they were pushing in Iraq. Ukraine has manifested absolutely to be a nation. This is a simple repudiation of a raw war of imperial conquest. As different from the neo-con's Iraq II as Kuwait was.
  5. delusional. ..or just captive (yeah, I'll go with B)
  6. Would be a good time for the boys in the starting lineup to start hitting a little bit.
  7. The culture would rather have its success myths and heroes than more people like you pulling back the curtains on questionable wizardry. You are stuck with the camel hair shirt, locusts and wild honey my friend.
  8. I don't like Maher because shows like his are part of what has trivialized politics in the US as entertainment first, civic responsibility maybe later. I don't mind political comedy, I like political comedy, but once you go that route don't expect me to then take anything you do seriously because you have suddenly 'shifted gears' for the moment. The fact that he is there as an entertainer *first* playing for laughs inevitably undercuts any message that I, or anyone would ever need actually act on any information he imparts, for instance any more than I would take some other comic's riff about some faulty kitchen appliance of his as a serious product review.
  9. another question is maybe what can he do when before he can fully return. For instance - if at some point he can't run but can start taking BP (with a hard shoe!) or non-impact cardio etc., that can take substantial time off his return to play
  10. But a misplaced critique of Trump, who is operating in a different realm than his critics. This works perfectly well with his audience. The point is not about the store, it's not about English/Germanic pronunciation, it's about trying to run down Peter Meijer, whose primary opponent he supports, so going to silly name games is always at the top of the playlist. It's Trump personal disrespect 101. It won't matter at all that they all shop there any more than it matters to an 8 yr old that he is perfectly able to pronounce the name of other kid he making fun of, heck it could even be his mother's maiden name - still wouldn't/doesn't matter. Of course, even people who are perfectly familiar with Meijer would still agree that the presence of the 'j' is silly (in English). Full disclosure, I think the spelling of my own name is silly (in English), but it's hardly worth the effort to get it changed since that kind of thing isn't even worth the time to talk about to people with more maturity than Trump and Trumpers - which is a relevant point. Besides - odd names do come with certain advantages - for instance you never get other people's mail....
  11. tell us how you really feel.
  12. yes he would cost the Tigers a pick but as I read it 1st round is protected. Reading back a bit, he apparently turned down an extension offer from the Mets in xs of 100M before they made the qualifying offer so I'd guess the Tigers just aren't going to be interested in another multiyear deal in that range for a 30 yr old.
  13. If Reyes flops at the plate that seems the inevitable outcome, though it's hard to look forward to, Harold is not a good outfielder.
  14. They are daily raising up a stronger army against them. The morale and motivation difference the Russians have created by their actions more than counter balances the 3:1 population ratio theoretically supporting their army's numbers. With continued western support I don't see any possibly way the Russians can prevail in this conflict at this point short of starting WWIII, which they would also lose (which they also well know). The question we all pondered in this forum before this all started was "Would the Ukrainians fight." Well damn if they have not answered the bell beyond anyone in the West's wildest dreams.
  15. it would be second round? He might be worth it IF he is healthy - depending on how many years he demands. The Tigers don't have much close in the way of OF prospects after Greene. The top position players in the minors now will be IF, (Kreidler, Santana, Pachero, Paredes), and C (Dingler). The first OF left in the Tiger prospect list is Campos at about 10, who is not close, and Meadows at about 20, who is probably not going to make the majors. Tigers have shown in the past they don't mind working with Boras, but that said the asking price will very likely be a non-starter...
  16. Right. Robson is LH and has been known to go on hot streaks. I think that is pretty much it for LH OFs. Clemens maybe? He and Robson are both a stretch..
  17. It won't help that he will end up facing more RHP. Hinch is going to have to pick his poison for the OF because none of the candidates have shown they can hit RHP well.
  18. I assume it was Greene's front foot (haven't seen it confirmed either way) so maybe he will at least be able to start hitting again before he can resume running.
  19. yup - we signed him for 6yrs in 2016 so by my math we would still be paying him this year if we still had him. The Angels 'extended' him but that deal was 5 yrs in 2017 so was still only through this season. In fact looking at it, it doesn't make a lot of sense on the surface. His Det deal was 132M for 6 yrs. A yr later the 'new' LA deal was 106M for 5yrs. Obviously other details may have changed but just on the money it was a non-move.
  20. I'm sure that was in part Peralta, who way out pitched his, but how many innings will we see from him? With young pitchers you sort of expect them to out pitch their peripherals, in particular their walks will fall and their K's go up as they learn hitters and umpires and sequencing and repetition sharpens command, but that doesn't mean they didn't have the good stuff to get out of trouble to begin with. Which I would say amounts to what Lee says is 'taking the next step'
  21. yeah - Greene or Tork or one of the young pitchers may become a star, but for now it is ironic that Avila seems intent on going with the philosophy of "win with 9 good players" instead of 3 stars, 3 ordinary Joes and 3 bums. At some point I think we need to put to rest the persistent idea the what the Tigers did under Dombrowski was somehow all Al Avila except for Dave's trades. It seems at every point Al has attempted to run a completely different operation and build a very different type of team.
  22. 1st in for 2022 to say "I hate the contact play"
  23. Sportrac says they own him $28M for this year. He's been under 100 OPS+ the last three seasons.
  24. Rodriguez gives up one on a HR to Gutierrez
  25. Woodbery reports that when they called Tork in to tell him the made the team, Cabrera came in and presented him a 1b glove.
