I think we have both a conservative and a liberal here in agreement that the solution is to attempt fewer apprehensions under conditions that give a perp less motivation to resist ( less hope of successful escape).
-
right - that too. Then again, if Pakistan did move East, would that move India move West? Might be the better end of the bargain!

I'm generally skeptical that players ever become better outfielders once into their 20s. But Baddoo does have speed and that can cover other sins in a CF. But like everything else in pro ball it depends on the bats. I'll be happy to live with Baddoo's D over Hill's if can OPS 150 higher. If not - then not so much.

TBF, Khan did as a play on his anti-Americanism. Not as clear to me there is much potential for deeper affinity between China and Pakistan. From the Chinese side Pakistan is basically a religiously based country that is sympathetic to Islamic evangelism and that is anathema to China. OTOH, the middle classes in Pakistan have a strongly Western world view.

~15 is about where they would be again if they start winning - somewhere south of the Astros but north of where they are now should be their normal spot.

so I just came across an NYT story that the NYPD never used solo patrol cars before 1991. I wonder how inflation and population adjusted police funding in NYC today actually compares to then? 5B is for sure a big number but without the context who knows what it should mean. https://www.nytimes.com/1991/09/19/nyregion/police-to-put-lone-officers-in-patrol-cars.html

You are historically and numerically incorrect. The EC exists because the US started out trying to maintain a patina of being union of somewhat politically equal states. It is no longer. It's is now a unitary nation. The Civil War settled that issue pretty emphatically. The other concept - about 'others have no say' is in fact the motivating principal of democracy, which is when in doubt, give the decision to the majority. There is no other fundamentally fair thing to do, thus elimination of anti-majoritarian structures like the EC manifestly would not 'give others no say', but instead move toward giving the most people the most say == democracy.

Or maybe the people in the country are just being greedy and non-communitarian. unwilling to adjust an unfair, non-democratic system because it benefits them. just sayin'...

Curious how some countries are just so pathologically bad at governance.

Relief pitching: Can't live with it, can't live without it. Before last night Aroldis Chapman had appeared in 3 games, faced 10 batters, K'd 5 and had not given up a hit, walk, or run. Last night he came in against the Jays to start the 9th and walked the bases loaded. Michael King came in and got him out of it with a K and DP. Chapman still hasn't given up a hit or a run! 🤔

meh - you know the Russian bureaucracy - they will likely just float through the work.

Must be the only way to save it from the Nazis.

he does look like a different hitter this season. Time will tell if that is a better hitter, but so far so good for 13 PA

So bottom line, Mize only gives up 2 in 5 and the Tigers win. I'll live with that.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Alex Lange.
-
Carlson with a somewhat 'elastic' K zone to say the least.
-
In terms of pure stuff Skubal and Manning both have more, but only time will tell which of the three makes the most of what they have.
-
also only 5 pitches at 95 or better. His 4 seamer was sitting around 93 too much for my liking. Velo isn't everything for everyone, but Casey is better when the throws harder. But again, let's see if some of that comes back as he gets worked in. Bottom line for Mize is what it has always been - he does not throw a great swing and miss FB. so he can't get away with mistakes. Maybe if he commands it better up high there is still some potential there, but in general Casey has to hit the corners with his FB to be effective. When he misses a lot he's going to look like he looked tonight - a lot of struggle. Now to his credit, Mize has a knack for struggling a lot and still not giving up that many runs - which is not nothing.
-
Sal had him pretty easily. But how 'bout that Cabrera kid. He's been a team player with all the talk about being moved down in the line-up but you know he can't like hearing it.
-
Major victory for KC to get 5 complete from Greinke, who for as much as Jacks talked him up, is pretty much over the hill truth be told.
-
Also - Mize has given up 3 steals and still hasn't gone to 1st once?
-
exactly. He gets into a rut where where he nibbles outside and then misses high. But I think the real problem for Mize is that he just absolutely cannot pitch mid high - he just get's hammered in the middle vertical third. He has to stay up and down, and then misses too much when he goes up. Hopefully he's still just not on his game with the short ST, but he hasn't been very impressive so far this season.
-
How long is Greene out?
-
If Mize could finally learn to command his high fastball he'd be a beast, but he can't throw it close enough to the zone consistently enough to get swings. Persistent issue for him.
-
True, but I think even more to the point, an officer in danger of losing any one-on-one with a perp is also in danger of having his lethal weapon taken and used by the perp to endanger him or a bystander. But it gets to where all these arguments are like bad kabuki theater. There is only one overriding reality here - which is that you can't fill a society with guns and not create the conditions were they kill a lot of people.
