  1. take a look at this source - page 38-39 https://www.jrsa.org/projects/Historical.pdf I'd try to screen cap it but the chart spans two pages. It shows US murder rates over the last 100yr. Been all over the map. Big steady increases from 1905 though to a peak in the 1930's with the organized crime sparked by prohibition. But the bigger trend might just be population surges - or maybe just youth population surges, which were huge both because of the baby boom starting with the 50's and in the huge immigration period at the beginning of the 20th century. Chart ends at 1998. As per this source https://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm, murder since 2000 has pretty much leveled out - a bit of a minimum at 2014 and a trend up since then. Since population has continued to increase that would probably net out to some decrease in the per capita rate over the last two decades - but not all that much if any.
  2. these guys are all coming to the league so young that their projection accuracy is just not all that great. Cade could hit the weight room and get stronger and better or just bigger and less athletic. But your are looking at the same kinds of questions with Mobley - can he maintain his signature quickness at 25 in his "man's" body? Who knows?
  3. and there is still no earthly reason for anyone not a sworn LEO to be carrying *any* semi-auto weapon on the street in the US. It's what any parent back in the day would have called 'asking for trouble', which in this case is exactly the correct formulation. Maybe someday this society will wake up, look back and realize that it has been completely insane during this period. But at this point, between the addiction to personal military fantasy, religious superstition, tribalism, pop star politics and ignorance in general, my doubts increase daily this society is going to survive itself long enough to realize much of anything. Bu we shouldn't feel bad, 200 yrs a decent run for the average empire......
  4. right. It's what the weapon is engineered to be useful for - and that is pretty obviously high-volume anti-personnel.
  5. Looks like he's got problem not shielding his dribble. You can't go into traffic in the NBA with the ball out in front of you like he's doing without elite speed he doesn't have.
  6. The Cavs are hardly the Globetrotters, but the Pistons still look like the Senators.
  7. it's also inflation in the absence of much or any interest rate increase and that is significant. It's when inflation drives up interest rates and the price of car loans and mortgages head up that people really feel the pinch. When we stop hearing re-fi ads that's when the Admin will be in big trouble on inflation.
  8. they played themselves out of gas to start the game and have been lagging ever since.
  9. I had Faedo's rehab clock wrong - didn't realize he was 9 months behind Wentz. In Sept he was still only throwing on flat ground. He'll still be pretty much square at best by opening day - maybe not ready to cut it loose till June and then he has to find his command etc....
  10. Green bitches about not having been picked #1. Mobley just goes out there and plays like it.
  11. Yes, although the Braves had such an outlier experience that they managed to discredit the truth.
  12. why do I care if anyone remembers the good teams or great teams? They aren't remembering me.
  13. 65S from 80/90 was definitely epic.
  14. and 7-5 Evan Mobley says "Hi.'
  15. That was Goff.
  16. He did get run pretty good behind the net at one point in the 1st. He sort of stopped like he said "Oh" to himself, then carried on.
  17. T.O.T.A.L..M.O.R.O.N (This guy's J.D apparently stands for Just Dumb.)
  18. Jeane Kirkpatrick was of a similar mold, but never ran for office (that I know of....)
  19. FWIW, it's also true that StL missed much more performance from Pujols by letting him go than we got from Cabrera by giving him the extension.
  20. correct. At least unless you are Margaret Thatcher.
  21. They look about 2 players short to me - and that's assuming they stay healthy. So maybe someone ups their game more than we expect - a guy like Rasmussen or maybe Namestnikov could possibly. Velano could be another upgrade but I don't know if I'd make any bets on him ever being an impact player. So outside chance for this year I guess. But the further horizon is looking better.
  22. well it's heck of a lot easier when you have a Seider managing it at the line who can pass, is not going to lose the one on one if a defender comes at him, and can stop all kind of pucks from getting over the line. It's simplistic to say it but the Wings huge problem has been inability to control possession and now you put Seider, Larkin, Raymond or Bertuzzi out there and you have enough guys with real puck possession skill that you can start to generate sustained pressure simply because you are not constantly giving the puck away.
  23. And Edvinsson and Vrana next season as well.
  24. It will be fun if the Wings can surprise us this season. The concern going into this season was that they haven't yet turned the roster over enough to be a good team, but the way I look at it, add up the bigger off-season adds (Leddy, Suter), the call ups ( Seider, Raymond), the guys that are heathier ( Bertuzzi, Larkin, DeKeyser), plus a couple guys playing better ( Rassmussen, Namestnikov), and you're at 9 guys, so that is a lot of change.
