  1. There are seven roster moves that need to be made by 5 days after the World Series... five moves if Chafin and Schoop opt out.
  2. Drew Carlton was also eligible, but did not opt for free agency.
  3. Baseball America revealed that the competitive balance rounds will be ordered by winning percentage now. This means the Mariners, if they still get one, get the first pick in the Tigers round. The Tigers would get the 6th, and the A's get the 8th and final.
  4. Bookmark my sheet. I keep that updated. Offseason Eligibles tab. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jRnDAcv86yGYl1Tq6fdXD1VoGr2Ls5PiRBNEFBXHL3Y/edit?usp=drivesdk
  5. The Mariners promoted their assistant GM to GM today. That tells me the Giants or Tigers were trying to get him for their vacant GM spot.
  6. Point being, you don't need to be in the bottom six to be eligible for the draft lottery. Every team that makes the playoffs is eligible.
  7. Worth noting the Giants are rolling too. With a couple more wins and continued MIL/PHI tailspin their playoff chances could start to be noninfinitesimal.
  8. Overuse of the reflexive pronoun usually goes hand in hand with dumb takes.
  9. If Sosa/McGwire/Bonds don't count, neither do the 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, or 2009 Yankees.
  10. As I get my hurricane prep ready, it reminds me how useful external phone chargers are.
  11. No However relative to league totals, you can still make the case it is the greatest HR season of all time already.
  12. A waiver claim on Andujar wouldn't make sense at all. He is a clear non-tender, since claiming him and rostering all offseason means he is going through arbitration with an incoming $1.3M salary and tying down a 40 man spot. A free agent flier makes sense, but I doubt anything is there.
  13. I think you all aren't foreseeing the paradigm shift in roster building. I think the Tigers will be scouring the waiver wire, trying to accumulate as many players as possible, and hoping a few bust out while waiting on the farm. Players will be acquired if they are a value. The days of "We need a catcher. Let's get Tucker Barnhart, mission accomplished" are likely over.
  14. That's exactly what they've been doing all year. When Melendez catches, Salvy DH's. When Perez catches, Melendez is in left field. When they went to Toronto, Melendez stayed home and did some more of his research.
  15. When did I say he should be traded? He shouldn't be. Just saying if you want Melendez, that is the ilk of player you will be giving up.
  16. Torkelson just got his above .600 after a hot streak, and plays a position where a bit more is warranted...
  17. Coming into the year, Fangraphs #21 ESPN #24 BA #42 Pipeline #51 I was confused why people seemed to think he'd be available for free. He isn't.
  18. He was a top 30-50 prospect coming into the year, and has acquitted himself relatively nicely in the bigs, especially compared to Tork. He's been playing every day, not platooning. Called up in early May and has 480 PA. He's a centerpiece for their team, they can mix and match with Perez, DH/LF'ing the other. They aren't going to give him away for a song.
  19. So we are already tasking Hinch and the coaching staff with working with the new front office processes, overhauling development, and trying to problem solve this team's issues. Let's just add a redass malcontent who can't play 3B anymore. Oh, and I'm sure Baez would willingly move off shortstop and not cause any clubhouse issues. Buy-in next year is going to be huge, and this just seems to be standing in the way of that. Pass. The Royals won't trade Melendez, and would probably ask for one of Greene/Torkelson or some package equating somebody of that ilk.

  22. Hinch is safe, at least for this year. They've made that pretty clear. I think people, in general, overestimate the amount of house cleaning that happens during these changes.
