  1. Fair, but there are some anti-science things in there as well... from a person who has promised to be at the cutting edge of technology and science. That's my only concern. If this was Metzler or Conner, I'd be less worried. And it makes me curious about some of the rumblings from "outsiders" curious that player dev isn't boing overhauled. I thought maybe they had outdated info, but maybe they have some tips from this year driving their opinion.
  2. All this turnout extrapolation is meaningless and should probably be ignored. Just like early voting demographics. Just wait til polls close.
  3. Yeah, there are some smart people I work with who go down those rabbit holes. I worry about somebody who needs to have his finger on current technology or the scientific method getting duped by vendors and bringing in some technology that is a net negative. Something along those lines...
  4. 2pm is when waivers are processed, and the Tigers roster crunch has to be resolved by Thursday...
  5. Bringing the Garko thing over here. He is a fan of MTG and the like...
  6. Whenever I hear that line I either shout "That's Canada!" But, my dad grew up near farmland in southwest Wayne County. South Detroit, to me, is his childhood house that had a horse farm three doors down.
  7. Man, stuff like that is worthless and meaningless. Don't get your hopes up based on early voting demographics.
  8. Eeeeeeeek I went into Ryan Garko's Twitter likes to see if there are any clues on pending hires. I'm less confident in his ability to think critically after that.
  9. Amusingly, I did not because I muted the phrase "personal news" on Twitter after so many people I don't follow ended up in my timeline for their personal news.
  10. If they were offered contracts, their agents should be fired for incompetence for not accepting guaranteed money in 2023. Both guys are destined for NRI's next year. Free agents automatically hit free agency the morning after the world series ends. Players with options or opt outs have the next five days to resolve. Minor League free agents become free agents five days after. This is all procedural stuff that people are reading waaaaaay too much into.
  11. Barnhart didn't have an option.
  12. Menzin and Bream are white, which is a no go in Law's eyes. I doubt he knows the player dev leadership was overhauled last year.
  13. Most no-trade lists correlate pretty well with tax rates, when you look at it. Teams need permission to trade somebody to the Dodgers or Giants, but Mariners, Rays, Rangers are fair game. Related, a lot of unique deals are jock tax dodges. Liam Hendriks's current deal, for example. You can do things with signing bonuses and spreading them out or allowing them to be taxed in a home state instead of the state the games are played.
  14. Related, after a quick google search. https://www.hawkcentral.com/story/sports/college/columnists/chad-leistikow/2022/05/06/leistikow-college-professor-robin-lund-transformed-iowa-hawkeyes-baseball-program/9629115002/
  15. Teams have exclusive windows with departing free agents for five days.
  16. LOL at anybody thinking Robert Malone is credible.
  17. I hope Austin Meadows isn't in the opening day lineup, assuming the Rays start McClanahan.
  18. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-surprisingly-complex-world-of-minor-league-contracts/
  19. I'm also not sure that statistic is accurate. MLB's transaction logs don't differentiate minor league free agents and major league free agents. The minor league free agent transactions in the official log tend to be undrafted free agents. The Tigers have had an extra international complex team for a while now. More spots to fill.
  20. I don't think the low-labor pull-up-a-list mass email is a fair characterization.
  21. You need to fill more minor league holes when you have zero depth on the farm or your player development apparatus is inept and high to mid round college picks can't make high A.
  22. It was a failed rebuild because the whole notion of a rebuild is antiquated.
  23. It is going to be funny when all these waiver claims go through waivers again in the next month.
  24. It isn't lateral. He has more duties for the Tigers. Overseeing international is a big deal, and it is more of a top level job for amateur scouting.
  25. FWIW, I talked to a former Rays scout on another forum, and he said Metzler likely got paaaaaaaid to leave his situation in Tampa. (Also told me a hilarious story about when he interviewed with the Tigers at Winter Meetings, involving a random bloody nose and Jim Leyland running to the suite bathroom to get toilet paper to help him and laughing his ass off)
