  1. Not as a law enforcement officer, but yes. I stand by my comments.
  2. I'm not following regarding this, seems like it's directed at someone else. I flat out do not like the way that this administration handles immigration enforcement and law enforcement more generally, and this incident is just another piece of evidence that their handling of these matters sucks. Not the least of which that the way they are going about these matters makes the job of police to solve other crimes that much more difficult (because they are creating an environment of distrust). I also think that you can be against the way these guys are conducting their business and feel that immigration is a serious issue. I don't have an issue, for instance, with having a tighter border. And (probably the only time you'll hear me say it) they have done a decent job bringing the numbers down at the border. But I am against casting an indiscriminate dragnet and, if anything, we should be looking at ways for those here nonviolently to be able to find work and contribute. Or for kids who came here through no fault of their own when they were babies to be able to go to college and contribute. Assuming he's afforded some level of due process, I'll defer to the legal system.
  3. I'll concede this, no.... but that doesn't absolve 4+ of these officers acting like a bunch out of control maniacs either.
  4. It'd sure help if they'd take the masks off.... police officers in my village and state don't wear them, why should these guys be wearing them?
  5. Does a suspect resisting arrest absolve law enforcement their responsibility in keeping their composure or acting with some level of restraint? I didn't see any of that in the video... they looked out of control to me.
  6. Why do you need 4+ people to arrest one person? "Targeted" implies "efficient".... which is not what I saw in that video.
  7. You claimed these arrests are "targeted"... the video that you just shared shows an arrest that clearly isn't targeted in any way shape or form. If it was "targeted" there wouldn't be 4+ of them there beating up on a single food delivery driver.
  8. Ahh yes, clearly the only two options are "wide indiscriminate dragnet that sweeps people up and asks questions later" and "not enforcing any immigration law". No in-between, nosiree lol
  9. I did see the video. I stand by my comments.
  10. Yep.... it never really gets addressed whenever this topic comes up, and it really should.
  11. I guess I'm unclear why it's anybody else's job other than *yours* to back up *your* argument. It's not *my* job to prove *you* right. Anybody who has ever sat through any high school level course should be able to understand this. The fact that you seem more than willing to make claims yet resist even the mildest suggestion of providing some sort of backup to said claims seems worthy of just dismissing said claims out of hand. 4+ federal officers descending on and beating the ever loving **** out of an unarmed food delivery driver looks like a lot of things... "targeted" isn't one of them.
  12. Backing up your own argument seems like *your* homework... at least that's how homework worked at every level of school I attended lol
  13. It would only take a few minutes of your time to back up your claim, yet you aren't doing it.... interesting.
  14. It's worth remembering that ICE has detained actual American citizens during the course of conducting themselves this way. Every single time it happens is a failure and is unacceptable. And should be treated as such
  15. This. Setting aside the moral questions, of which there are many, 4+ federal officers beating the **** out of an unarmed delivery driver is absolutely a tremendous waste of resources. If I was trying to defend the actions, I'd probably focus on their attire too, because the actual video and the outrage it generated shouldn't be surprising in the least.
  16. Watching that video, that level of force on an unarmed food delivery driver is completely outrageous. Doesn't matter whether they are here illegally or not, that interaction did not need to happen that way and the fact that it did is 100% the responsibility of the agents involved and of this administration. They deserve every bit of criticism they are getting for it.
  17. I will only push back a little bit and say that The Bulwark has done a really good job of hiring actual reporters (ie. Sam Stein, Jonathan Cohn on the health care issues, Adrian Carrasquillo on Latino issues, etc.) that do actual journalism as well as (if not better) than mainstream publications. It's not all just "resist lib takes" The rest of it is a mixed bag to me. Tim Miller doesn't bother me and is at least self-aware about his reach, but some of the other folks (particularly Jonathan V. Last) are kinda worthless to me. They don't accomplish anything and, if anything, their doomerism about everything is perhaps counterproductive even.
  18. As much as people talk about COVID, but one thing that impacted the 2020 election (and perhaps a reason he lost) was that he spend SO much time trashing mail voting. And suppressing GOP votes. And the GOP, understanding that they were the ones that invented the practice and until recent years tended to put elections on ice utilizing it, managed to get him to shut his pie hole about it in 2024 (an election he managed to win) Also, the "states as an agent of the Feds" line is rich.... I don't ever want to hear about "small government conservatism" ever again from anyone representing this movement.
  19. Reminds me of the episode of Coach when they were playing on the road and Dauber left the playbook behind at a restaurant lol
  20. This administration is awful, it is deadly serious. But the absolute best way to combat them is to mock the ever loving **** out of them. And I don't understand why we don't see it more.... Newsom does it, maybe Pritzker to a degree, but largely non-existent beyond that.
  21. My perspective on this is influenced a little bit by the fact that we purchased a house that had panels put on them by the previous owner (so we avoided a lot of the upfront costs, currently reaping the benefits), but it's been a bit shocking how much the arrangement has benefited us relative to paying market rates for energy. Bigger picture, I understand that solar and wind can't be done to scale at this point, I am a realist, but I just don't understand hostility towards the idea of generating more electricity when there are more and more demands on the system with every passing day. It's insane.
  22. Costs in general are going to be a big piece of this upcoming election, but with energy in particular, the hostility that this administration has toward renewable forms of energy (in light of the AI boom / data centers, how much energy they suck up) is so illogical.
  23. The dude has always been a narcissist.... if you have one in your life, you know it even if you aren't qualified to clinically diagnose. But now? He's a narcissist who is senile. Every single day you see him going forward will be him at his best.... what a scary ****ing thought.
  24. Sure Grandpa, let's get you to bed, m'kay?
  25. If anything, I wish he'd spend 100% of his time hosting UFC fights... and not, you know, things like cutting Medicaid.
