  1. The optics of Emmer getting pulled down for, in large part, voting to certify in 2020 while this guy (who came up with the SCOTUS Amicus Brief) gets elevated is gonna likely be exploited as well.
  2. Would it be too much for the press to keep asking this question of the guy, particularly if he does end up walking away with the gavel? Or would it be too much to risk their "access"?
  3. People keep framing this in terms of who will fold or not, but this is an extremely divided caucus working with a 4-vote majority. And it's a caucus brimming with grievances between factions that aren't likely to be bridged. A bunch of them are tired of this process and don't understand why McCarthy was even ousted in the first place. It's an extremely tough needle to thread for any of these candidates going forward.
  4. People are inclined to think this, but idk...
  5. Roll out the sandwiches lol
  6. It's a battle for the soul of the party, but this whole exercise of going back and forth is just endless cycle of the one thing that defines this Republican Party: grievance. Grievance is to the Republican Party what OxyC is to an opioid addict.... it's all consuming, self destructive, and the rest of us all get to live the consequences of their dysfunction.
  7. Not a serious political party lol
  8. Not sure if he's referring to the House or not, but if he is, his statement wouldn't even be accurate (Delaware and Alaska come to mind)
  9. Pretty sure the resolution would require the whole house to vote, presumably Bacon and Co + Dems means that's a fruitless endeavor for the Jordan dead-enders.
  10. The strategy is sort of hard to suss out imo because he doesn't care about winning this election or becoming Speaker.... he cares about being a martyr standing up to the "evil establishment". All the failure with Rs in tough districts (ie. the NYers, Bacon, etc.) and with R Appropriators (Granger, Simpson, Womack) all helps fill his narrative, which is the content that energizes the types of Republicans that Jordan caters to.
  11. We've reached the "order Panera and yell at each other" portion of the day
  12. To be honest, while I don't think it is likely, I wouldn't be totally surprised if this happens.... if one gathers that Jordan is trying to make himself into a martyr, one way for that to happen is for Jeffries to be elected by fluke because he was "failed" by the "evil Establishment"
  13. Yeah, the whole "Jordan is gonna keep the whole Congress in session all weekend" idea falls apart the moment that (if my math is correct) three GOP members join Derrick Van Orden in being somewhere else all weekend.
  14. There ya go, good ol' fashioned victim blaming.
  15. It honestly amazes me it's taken even this long for there to be more coverage of how normalized this is within the Republican Party in particular.... especially since Trump came into play, this has always been a feature, although we're now seeing real world consequences of it for these holdouts.
  16. Just FYI, one Republican member (Derrick Van Orden) is out of country now in Israel.... so Jimmy's already down a vote there.
  17. That last statement really cuts to why he'd be a disaster as leader.... there are simply things that you have to do in that role that involve coordination with the other party, and he's completely and utterly incapable of being that person. McCarthy, by contrast, was capable but part of his undoing (and why the Dems didn't save him) is because he breached trust too many times.
  18. Jordan's fans put the "offensive" in "charm offensive"
  19. This was from yesterday but still applies... one thing this Congress has proven is that the GOP cannot count votes to save its life lol
  20. I like how, a few days ago, Jordan and his allies were messaging that they needed to elect Jim Jordan to get back to the work of the American people. Yet, according to CNN just now, they are working to kill a resolution (empowering McHenry) that would actually accomplish that. It's almost like it's not about functioning government and more about giving Jordan power.
