  1. If Haase can't play the outfield and Jake is playing like this, his position is a lot more precarious
  2. That was a mess from the start... bad route, not a catch
  3. No, Englert should not be offered back... he just shouldn't be put into these positions. Thats on Harris to find the right mix
  4. Totally.... tonight was about depth
  5. Hill may have taken the lead in the race for a Toledo bus ticket
  6. Not used to seeing Javy this disciplined at the plate lol
  7. Really nice outing by Joey... located well
  8. Baez giveth, Baez taketh away... jesus
  9. The situation with Javy is what it is, they will have to do what they can to manage the relationship and to try to get Javy to a place where they can maximize production from him while he is wearing the D. And this is one area where I have some trust in the manager. AJ has put in the work with Baez, especially during the last off-season, establishing a relationship and understanding with Baez that could withstand the fallout from last night. I do think the situation gets to bigger questions about this team in terms of leadership... Who is the leader in that clubhouse among the players? Who has the stature to hold the room and deliver accountability? Of the vets, Miggy is a sideshow at this point (and is mercurial in his own way), it's not Baez, its not Austin Meadows (who is preoccupied at the moment). Eric Haase has been sort of cast in that role by the media, yet he has also seen lapses in his base running and play in recent days. The only guy who seems remotely close to being that guy is Jake Rogers, but he needs more time to settle in and prove himself in his own right. It's more of a qualitative than a quantitative thing and may not matter as much as quantitative metrics, but from the outside looking in, they just seem to lack leadership and an identity.
  10. Totally can see this being the case. Even setting aside that Javy hasn't shown himself to be a focal point player (multiple people have said it, myself included), he is still a veteran on a largely young ballclub and at the very least has act professionally in his capacity. Like, it's not acceptable for Matt Vierling to not slide going into second but it is at least somewhat understandable based on experience level... for Javy, even with the similar incident that happened in 2021 with the Cubs, it's neither acceptable or understandable. He's a veteran player and with that comes added responsibility. Which may have prompted AJ to act in this instance
  11. They arent going to carry a four man rotation, so they will likely cull from their surplus of mediocre middle infielders (ie. Kreidler, McKinstry, Schoop)
  12. AJ would probably agree, but Javy (and the circumstances leading up to his mistakes) didn't leave him much choice. Definitely think he did the right thing here.
  13. As far as I can tell, he enjoys the atmosphere at those White Sox road games... which, being a member of a bad Tigers team, may be part of the issue: the atmosphere at an average Tigers game over the past six years is similar to that of a nursing home.
  14. Both sides have incentive for this to work out as best it can this year... the team for his potential production, Javy for his potential market value should he elect to opt out. So no, there will not be a trade nor should there be. Both sides need to work to make this successful going forward
  15. With Manning on IL, that's unlikely to happen
  16. Not making excuses for Javy more than trying to find an explanation, but before he ended up a Tiger, everywhere he played before he wasn't "the guy" that people were supposed to look to. Even setting aside the poor play, he needs to step up his game as a teammate and be a role model on a younger team. The fact that he's the one who got benched for dogging it and it was third year professional Spencer Torkelson in a post game interview having to give the "it's about accountability" line, that should be embarrassing to him as a professional
  17. Nice to see AJ smiling again. The events of last night lead me to believe that, no he's not leaving, and that he's here for the long haul
  18. This is a lot like the Boston series... overall, this stretch isn't easy, but the Giants are more beatable than some of the other teams the Tigers have faced thus far. It would be nice if they could get 2/3
  19. Smooth move by Johnny Kane asking Rogers about getting hit in the gonads...
  20. Pitching wise, they did dominate the strike zone... 1BB, 10 Ks
  21. Really nice win for the boys tonight... but they still need to hit better in leverage situations
  22. Turnbull has looked good tonight... Zack McKinstry not so much
  23. Absolutely... it's one thing when the talent level isn't good, its another when players just aren't focusing. Gotta out the foot down
