I tend to associate it with the types of commentators who tend to comment on literally everything that happens regardless of their knowledge base (or lack thereof) on a given topic. Think Matt Yglesias, for instance... I am not entirely clear what makes his opinions have more value than anyone elses, but nonetheless people will apparently separate themselves from their money for the ability to read them.

Regarding Carpenter/Baddoo, I am sort of on the fence in that it's easy to lean toward Carpenter on the hope and promise of his bat, but Baddoo brings a skillset on the basis that this team doesn't have. Of course, it is all predicated on Baddoo actually getting on base, but he tends to create havoc when he gets there. It is ST, but the first run of Thursday's game (Baddoo stealing home while Kreidler was caught in a rundown) was a good example... he brings a package of skills there that others can't. You can see why the Tigers still remain intrigued by the guy, at least. But it all comes down to if he can get on base enough with his opportunities

Same goes for Spring Training statistics as well... the evaluations on these players are no doubt more holistic than just looking at the ST stat sheet and making decisions accordingly. Aside from the outfielders, this is probably the case for Torkelson who, despite the stat sheet looking rough, seems to have improved his approach at the plate.

Very little reluctance on my end in saying that I'm less worried about Tork than I was coming into Spring Training. He got off to a slow start but his mechanics are clearly better than they were last season. And he's stinging fastballs in a way that he wasn't before as well

It's so odd considering how frequently many of these same people will accuse anyone outside of the MAGA fold of being out of touch... like, most normal people, to their credit, aren't on Twitter and aren't reading the generally self-important writings of those who earn their living writing on Substack. Like most things, it just seems like projection to me.

Adding to your point, Davis is also a plus defensive OF. Baddoo and Carpenter are not. Doesn't mean that he's a better option than either overall, but Davis has at least one tool that they do not as well.

J. Davis bats RH, and depth wise they are light in that category in terms of true outfielders. Don't think he makes the team, but I get why he's there and why they want him in the org at least.
