  1. Stavenhagen on his podcast today sounds pretty bullish on Malloy.... saying things like we might be seeing him sooner rather than later and that a stopgap Brian Anderson type with him waiting in the wings might not be the worst thing in the world.
  2. Nor should he be.... fan sentiment matters, but often what fan bases want and what is smart for the long term outlook of a ballclub don't always align. To add to this, what kind of message or precedent does it set in future negotiations to do an 40% overpay like they would have had to do with Jeimer? Particular with a first year PBO? Again, it's easy for us to sit on the sidelines and question the wisdom of letting him walk but the Tigers have a lot more variables to think about than any of us do when making that kind of decision.
  3. It's also false to assume anything isn't being done with the money that is saved.
  4. Yep... Giants got lucky there. Giants played well defensively, but boy oh boy do the Commies look like theyve been living off a bunch of smoke and mirrors at the moment.
  5. I dont know if the Lions make it, but after watching this game, I definitely think they are better than the other three teams they are fighting for a spot.
  6. As big a risk as they both are, they are being paid at market value. And, like Candy's deal with the Nationals, both have incentives built into their contract as well. The Tigers were in a tough spot with Candy... unlike all 29 other teams who had the opportunity to negotiate fair value for him after being non-tendered, the only real chance they had to keep him was to pay him the full monty. I can understand both sides, but ultimately baseball is a business and teams (not just the Tigers) aren't necessarily in the business of overpaying players to the tune of 40% or more over their market value. As fans, a lot of us will not get it because it ain't our money. But it's understandable why they did it and I imagine Harris knew what he was doing and knew the risks when he did it.
  7. Can't really change it because it's just the nature of fans, but the decision to tender or not tender a specific player or not to deliberately pay a player over his market value shouldn't be used as an indicator of whether a team is cheap or not. Still think the Tigers did what most teams would have done in this situation.
  8. A rewatching of the video reveals that Matty P is on the sidelines seal clapping after the first lateral Make of that what you will
  9. They have him calling plays? That's insane.
  10. What were the playcallers thinking? I doubt that was completely freelanced
  11. Maybe that possibility was considered when they chose to roll the dice?
  12. IIRC, the number they offered wasn't $3 million, it was closer to the $5 he ended up getting.
  13. Jeimer isn't bad, but the Tigers as an org are going to act with a fiduciary responsibility in how they approach contracts. I understand that we are all fans and it production is our currency and all, but this is the real world... if most fans had their way, they would have given Aaron Judge a half billion to come here. It's easy to spend the dollars when they aren't yours. I think the Tigers did with Jeimer what most other orgs would have done in that situation. They offered what they thought was fair value, Jeimer didn't want to play ball, they moved on. And ultimately the market seems to have determined that they were more right than wrong in their determination. It is what it is. I just don't think the Tigers should have felt obligated to make the safe and conservative move and pay him more than he was worth on the market.... maybe they don't find something better in the end, but I give them credit for rolling the dice and actually trying something different
  14. I tend to agree with this. Teams will likely want to see more sustained success than what the Lions have put out just in 2022.
  15. Bigger picture, they really need the Commanders to win tonight. Both the Hawks and Giants will have their hands full with the Chiefs and Jags next week
  16. It was always a tough one from 58 yards, but the degree that he missed it was bad... he yanked that thing toward Montclair lol
  17. Good God Greg Zeurlein has gone downhill lol
  18. I dont agree, I think he knew the market was shaky.
  19. But also, it's the Jets. Josh Allen only had 147 yards against these guys last week lol
  20. Haha, not content with one massive comeback in the NFL this week are we?
  21. Heck, the best deal Victor could yield was a minor league deal with invitation to Spring Training with the Jerk Sox. That should say something about what the rest of the league thinks about him, let alone the Tigers. I dont know what the new regime will do the rest of the offseason, but I am unclear why I should be losing sleep over (worst case scenrio) Kerry Carpenter, Akil Baddoo or even Bligh Madris will be taking Vic's ABs
  22. Jeimer is definitely more of a jump ball on the question of retaining or not, but Willi Castro and Victor Reyes have all had 1000 ABs in this league. Harold has had that many ABs and he's almost 30 years old. I think we have seen enough to have a good idea of what kind of players they are in this league.
