  1. That's a lot of years, damn
  2. This one is pretty bad... Herman is about as straight a newsman as you will find on that hellsite
  3. Sports is an issue for sure... need the Tigers beat writers to look at other platforms lol
  4. I'm sure Matt Taibbi will be covering this crime against free speech on the next "Twitter Files" soon enough lol
  5. Rupar sucks, but as far as I can tell, the banning spans way beyond him.
  6. Another one.
  7. Hard to believe that the guy behind Trump Steaks and Trump Vodka might be behind the ball on a rollout. What's the world coming to? lol
  8. Yeah, they started off with Case Keenum for most of that year, he only really saw action later on and it didn't go well at all. The rebound in year two from a QBR perspective (something like a 40 point increase) was not expected. Had McVey had Goff as an actual rookie and not a second year QB coming off Jeff Fisher's season from hell, the perceptions would have been somewhat different and one could see it being more of a shared responsibility more than the popular narrative which leans toward Goff owing his success to McVey.
  9. The disastrous first season (ie. the last gasp of Jeff Fisher) is a part of the story as well - what little he played, he was awful in that first year on an absolutely awful team. And, iirc, he was largely treated like crap by that coaching staff and lost a ton of confidence as a result. And that more than anything else really set up McVey to kinda look like the guy who "made" Goff - people went from writing him off as a bust to declaring that McVey had "fixed" Goff in a matter of months. The 1/1 thing is a factor as well, but there are some unique circumstances in Goff's background which have kinda led to the perceptions imo. It's a complicated story, but the reality is that while McVey deserves a lot of credit, Goff is a good QB in this league and, only now it seems, is he starting to get more of a benefit of the doubt.
  10. Absolutely would be worth sacrificing Zack Short for IMO
  11. I think your comments have been fair on this, but often in past discussions about Goff (particularly when he was first acquired) there has always been an implication that whatever success Goff has had had little to do with Goff and more to do with just about everything and everyone else around him. That's sort of unfair and, tbh, is probably a byproduct of the decline in relationship he had at the end with McVay and the resulting "he said, she said" that came with the trade. And at least from my view, McVay's side of the story in that relationship has generally been the default and has been the one internalized in the conventional wisdom.
  12. It also speaks to how having a good QB in this league is really a luxury as well. As mediocre as we all thing Goff is or that it's all about coaching, there are a lot of other franchises who would take him in a heartbeat over what they currently have - and it's often not easy to find someone even that good from the pile. I hear the same variation of this frequently where I live about Dak Prescott - granted he's been better than Goff, but like with Goff, it's fair to question whether he can be the guy to take it all the way, but he's the guy that they have right now. And there is no guarantee that the next man up will be any better.
  13. Somehow, this is even worse than Al Capone's Vault lmao
  14. You gotta get further into the outer space scenes, particularly when Helen Mirren, John Lithgow and Bob Balaban start getting more screen time. It still looks dated for sure, but otherwise the writing and plot are really good. And given that Kubrick had all the original Discovery set destroyed after 2001, it's almost miraculous how close the set designers got in redesigning that set.
  15. I'll probably try that now... I love 2001, but having that added context may make it even easier to appreciate
  16. What if Brad Holmes doesn't like the crop of QBs available? Really, that's what a lot of this conversation comes down to. If the GM thinks there's a can't miss generational talent available, then I doubt anyone would object to him pulling the trigger. But if that person isn't available, Goff has played well enough that I doubt he will draft a QB for the sake of drafting a QB.
  17. To the extent that anyone is glossing over McVey and his role, it feels like now is the first time since Goff arrived in Detroit where people actually *are* glossing over McVey and his role. In part because Goff has been playing at a pretty high level of late on a non-McVey coached team. Of course, a lot of that is a mix higher level of talent and better coaching that the Lions have had during this part of the season. But nonetheless, it does suggest that it isnt just McVey who can unlock Goff's talent and abilities.
  18. This is all true, he's not the best QB in the NFL and certainly hasn't totally lived up to being the 1/1 pick, but he's still compares favorably to a lot of starters in the league at this time. Which is probably good enough for where they are at this point. But even aside from all the other stuff mentioned in terms of on-field play, he should be commended for really putting in the work off the field and in the community. Now Walter Payton MOY candidate for the second year in a row. Whether he makes sense as a long term fit is a fair question, but for a guy who came in from the outside as an outcast, you can sense that he clearly wants this to work over the long term and has gone above and beyond in terms of ingratiating himself in Detroit. That seems notable to me... not hard to envision another player in a similar situation viewing coming to the Lions as a career death sentence, akin to being sent to Siberia.
  19. This is a fair take. As it stands right now, they need help on the defense more than they need to roll the dice on one of these QBs
  20. Whatever the announcement is, my default belief is that it will be similar to "Al Capone's Vault" in terms of build up versus result.
