  1. Sorry. But I dont think his comments matter much in the grand scheme of things.
  2. https://theathletic.com/1146049/2019/08/19/35-under-35-how-pete-putila-deals-with-the-pressure-of-keeping-the-astros-at-the-top-of-the-heap?source=user-shared-article For those with Athletic subscriptions, this is a pretty good read on Putila... There are other good candidates for sure. But he seems like a pretty good fit... especially with his experience in player development and the likely familiarity between him and the manager.
  3. There are only 30 of these jobs... only a handful of which are open in any given offseason. Its not even clear there will be more than 1 of the jobs open in this offseason as well. I suspect there won't be a lack of interest from candidates if they get a call from the Tigers.
  4. Craig Paquette... now there was a beauty. Also loved how they were paying millions of dollars to the corpses of Dean Palmer and Bobby Higginson at the end of their contracts. That era was so bad, and it was only because Mike I got the next hire right that we kinda forget how bad it was.
  5. I wonder how this decision ultimately affects the Miguel situation
  6. Not to defend Chris, because it took him way too long to do what he did today, but he is the type of owner that views the role as being one where he hires somebody to do the job and gives them latitude to make those decisions. Most owners in sports are like this to a degree... they arent all Jerry Jones and Mark Cuban. Having said that, similar to his comments at the Red Wings presser a few months ago, it's another case of him answering a relatively easy question in the worst and most aloof possible way.
  7. From what I caught of Chris I's press conference, not a lot of info, but he kept emphasizing bringing in someone to run Baseball Operations. Leads me to believe that he's not necessarily looking to backfill with a GM. Just hope whoever he gets is the right person for the job.
  8. Any editorial shift coming at Bally State Media tonight?
  9. As a reminder, they hired a bunch of folks from outside of the organization last year around this time. All the old guard need to be swept out, but idk if indiscriminately firing everyone is the right idea either. It all kinda depends on who they hire I suppose... it may not matter depending on who they hire.
  10. Speaking to what Ed suggested earlier, isn't now kind of an ideal time to do it as opposed to waiting to October? Gives you a head start on a search, particularly if they are planning on going outside the org, might make it easier to get someone on board before free agency begins, etc.
  11. The deadline for the Tigers this time was pretty minimalist - it didn't get great grades, but they weren't necessarily franchise-breakers either. And particularly with trades involving higher profile players (ie. had someone like Skubal been on the table), it's likely Chris I would have to sign off on them regardless. It's possible he may not have if this had been in the works.
  12. Not sure much else we can infer from the letter, but regarding all the rumors about Skubal at the deadline, there's zero doubt in my mind that this was probably in the works before the deadline took place. Would Chris I have even signed off on a deal for Skubal?
  13. I know that many wished they would have done it before the draft / deadline, but I would imagine a move like this takes time to execute. Particularly if there are subordinates involved and moving people around to handle responsibilities on an interim basis.
  14. Obviously the camera wasn't focused on him much, but the few times the camera caught him, you really didn't see him smile.... never looked comfortable during that ceremony.
  15. Mine as well.
  16. That first month of AA was hard, but he appears to have more or less figured it out. He may warrant a bump ump to Toledo soon one would think.
  17. I'm in this boat as well. He's overall been a better player in Toledo than in Detroit, but if you look at the game logs, it's absolute roller coaster.... he had a three game stretch in Iowa last week where he went 5/11, 2BB, 2K, then followed up by a game where he went 0-5 with 3K, hits a homer the next game, then 3 games where he's 0-10. But like you suggest, even when he's had some success in Toledo, where he's been consistent has been with K's.... there's too many of them. Even with possible mechanical adjustments that might be going on, we've seen enough ABs to be a bit concerned IMO
  18. Short or Davis one would think.... Davis was pulled from the game in Toledo yesterday early, but idk if that is injury related or something else.
  19. Another special election last night, this time in Minnesota 1 (ie. Rochester, Mankato, Winona) Rs still extremely likely to win the House, but recent results combined with polling in some of these races seem to point to a much different environment than in Nov 2021.
  20. Calling all "we're really concerned about Supreme Court Justice safety" folks
  21. They did it... they finally did it
  22. Thinking that Singuel might be out of singles...
