Yep, that was what was known at the time and is consistent with what we know about how Russia "negotiates" more generally. They are not a good faith actor and shouldn't be treated like one. And Zelensky understands that I'm sure.

Also not clear why accepting pre-Feb 24 borders would be seen as a win among the Ukrainian people, particularly after Putin invaded. A more serious "proposal" would be pre-2014 borders, with reparations.

Part of the issue is (because of Cabrera) the inability to utilize him at DH... In an ideal world, he'd be getting more ABs on his off days at catcher. I do know that people look at catcher as an area they need to upgrade, and they do need to come up with a longer term solution soon, but I've seen enough out of Haase where I think they can live with Haase/Rogers/Barnhart or FA signing for 2023. And hope that Dingler progresses or they can further upgrade in 2024

It's also kind of an unimaginative argument on his part, on a few levels... not just falling back on making this hiring a litmus test for progress in diversifying MLB front offices, but just completely dismissing Byrnes without mentioning that he has a record of drafting and acquiring some really good MLB talent in his career. I don't know if Byrnes is the best possible hire they can make or not, but I don't think it's ridiculous that he's on the short list either.
