Yeah, I get it. Even if they somehow win, they would face a Seattle team that really pitches. And then, maybe Toronto. It's a long, long road to the World Series without getting the bye in the wildcard round. Especially as a 6 seed.
Agreed. The entire Bregman situation should have been handled differently. Make an offer to Boras and tell him in a week, we'll be looking elsewhere and the offer is gone. But Harris let Boras shop our offer around until he got a better offer. Leaving the Tigers out in the cold without a 3rd baseman. I'm not sure who else was available but at least we could have had a chance to find someone.
Ugh...are you saying we shouldn't even have tried to get him because we can see the future and he may not produce better than our utility players at 3rd base? That's just a really bad excuse, his veteran leadership may have prevented one or two losses, the difference between a wildcard series being played IN Cleveland over it being played IN Detroit. Let's not sign or trade for any player ever because they may not produce better that the utility players we already have. SMH
It doesn't matter what he did IN Seattle. We played different teams with a different lineup. He may have hit 20 home runs for all we know. And it's also a total cop out...we didn't get a quality bat 7 weeks ago but he didn't do any good anyway. But...try to improve the team, even if it doesnt work out. The effort was made. Olson went down and we got a bottom feeder teams reject and a 41 year old who was washed up 3 years ago. Good job Harris...
