I am really, really looking froward to the new Ken Burns documentary series about the American Revolution. I am definitely not looking forward to the Trump people using it as a cudgel in their stupid ****ing culture war, whinging endlessly about how woke the series is because the it has the gall and the audacity to highlight any contributions at all from women, people of color, and First Nations people. The MAGA elitists might even use the program as an excuse to put PBS into the guillotine once and for all. It looks amazing, though.

They stopped talking about it because they couldn’t pin it on a southpaw, even though they try to do so for every single shooting, and invariably, the allegation is always laid out flat on its back by the facts. The unfortunate thing is, that whole line of rhetoric is governed by the Principle of It Takes Only One—it this case, it takes only one legitimate case of a lefty actually perpetrating a mass shooting in the general vicinity of maga-friendly culture before Trump declares a national emergency and martial law, sending the military into every major city in the country, particularly those governed by people of color, and rounding up local political leaders, media, academia, and community organizers, as well as many of the ordinary people merely in proximity to them, by the tens or hundreds of thousands. They will be disappeared in plain sight from their family, friends, and neighbors, sequestered away indefinitely within our own country, unreachable and incommunicado, and will meet whatever their fate might be. And then we will truly be off to the races on the collapse of traditional American ideals.

I miss the days ten or so years ago when I said Trump would do this kind of thing if he got elected and i was castigated for engaging in “Alarmist Non-sense.” Can we please go back to those days so I can have a breather from this new reality?
