  1. If you are a fan of Jon Hamm narration, you might consider watching him narrate this documentary about the St. Louis Browns.
  2. I suspect many would care if Bryce Harper or Trout or Ohtani or Judge were coming to town, since even casual fans have heard of these guys.
  3. My favorite part of this spot comes at the 0:51 mark, which shows Hawley's book getting a 1.21 overall rating on GoodReads.
  4. I would like to know whether the shorter games, as well as rumors that the games are shorter, is behind this. I would guess it has a lot to do with it.
  5. Exactly. Even we who felt most that we should keep Jeimer Candelario knew he was never going to be on the next playoff team. It was more about getting good value for the money—yes, at $7MM—for a year while someone (like Malloy) percolates in Toledo and comes up once Jeimer were to bolt for the market. He was always going to be a one-year stopgap that would give you a few wins there this year. If Jeimer puts up four or five wins this year, he's going to get multiple years on a signing from someone somewhere this winter. There are thirty teams out there, and not every one of them thinks he's streaky chopped liver. Just twenty-something of them do. 😁 In a way-too-early guess, a 4- or 5-win Jeimer Candelario might score something like 3/40 with an option from a team like the Rockies or Phillies—or even the Nationals. If he slows way down and gets two-something WAR or less, though, he'll probably get only a single year somewhere.
  6. Who’s the girl and why is her face all over the video?
  7. I don’t know if it’s that cut and dried, since we did pay $10 million and $8 million to a couple of free agents, and overall payroll did nudge up a bit. But maybe there’s something to that.
  8. I am definitely in the minority in mine, although I do have a fellow traveler in my youngest brother, which makes Thanksgiving a little easier.
  9. FWIW, in my 8-team historical OOTP league, I am quite deep in average to slight-above-average players but rather light towards the top, and I’ve been bouncing between third and sixth place.
  10. Oh, I’m pretty sure we’ll hear about it. 😁
  11. I would really like to know why they did let him go. Did they really think he was totally done at 29? Is he some sort of clubhouse cancer? Did they bow to pressure from fans and press? Did L’Ilitch decree he be gone? I wonder whether we’ll ever find out for sure.
  12. Well, as we all know by now, Jeimer Candelario is a notoriously streaky hitter whose streaks belie how bad he actually is. Why, if you remove all the games he didn't get hits, he's actually batting .000/.101/.000 in 69 plate appearances, which is way worse than even Maton. So, yeah, we're better off without him.
  13. OK, down 6-4 through eight. We've done this before. Let's do it again! Foley W, Lange S!
  14. Looks like Baez is back to making desperate swings.
  15. Sorry, Jake, you get only one take in that spot. See ya. Got another run, though. Only two down now ... 😁
  16. I'm not sure why, on the sharp one-hopper to second, Maton waited to see whether the second baseman would field the ball before he committed going to third, where he was a dead duck.
  17. So, OK, we are within a slam, but also, we have guys who are still champing at the bit to be the instant hero who ties the game or puts us in the lead with one swing. But again, we are closer. That's something.
  18. The Dombrowski winners were all stars-and-scrubs teams, to your point. But also as you imply, we are a long way from having anything like nine average big league players.
  19. Also in all fairness, this issue is at hand for the Nationals right now and not the Tigers.
  20. Englert in. Interesting. He threw 21 pitches on Friday. I would have thought only Cisnero and Alexander since they were the only two bullpen guys who hadn't pitched yet this series.
  21. Bases loaded, no out, no score. Jumpin' Jeebus.
  22. One thing keeping me tuned in is remembering that these are the Washington Nationals, so on a list of all the teams that could choke up a five-run lead to lose a game, the ex-Expos is near the top of it.
  23. What should he have done instead?
  24. lol twelve hits given up in the first three innings? Not sure when I last saw that.
