  1. We don’t normally think about it that way when it comes to police forces, but it is true that they are populated by people, and a certain percentage of people are cowardly bastards who are in it only to boss ordinary people around, intimidate cafe owners into giving them free meals, run any red light or stop sign they feel like, roll hookers and drug dealers for sex and money, and bang badge chasers.
  2. Or that they are empaneled by some sort of death committee or something.
  3. Meaning the Republicans? Yup. Totally. Honor for your service is conditional on your current state of loyalty.
  4. I wonder if the term “rat” is going to make a reappearance in all this? Remember that from a couple years ago? I can’t quite pick out what the circumstances were from the firehose of my Trump memories, but someone who was at least somewhat on the inside was singing about some unethical and/or potentially criminal thing that was going on within the administration and, for a couple days anyway, that someone was referred to as a “rat”. Even londsey Graham was on the pundit shows tossing accusations of “rat” around. Of course, if they do start slinging the word “rat” around to describe some of the people testifying, that’s basically an admission of guilt right there.
  5. On any level, for anything, even things not related to the military? I don’t know. Maybe. Americans are funny about that.
  6. It can be hard to get top-tier hitters to choose to play in Comerica without having to overcompensate them. Which Papa Doc did in the 2010s.
  7. As long as they dont move the merry-go-round onto the field on play, I’m fine with it.
  8. The other thing about this ad is that he gets to borrow interest by highlighting that he was a Marine, which gives him additional gravitas with some, but really, except for that part necessarily, you could hand this script to any other Democratic candidate and it would still work. Everywhere this applies, ads need to highlight this kind of crazy in their opponents. And there is no shortage of states and districts in America now where this applies. Right wingers already scare the shit out of their base to get them to the polls, and it works. Maybe it’s time that Democrats need to scare the shit out of their base, too.
  9. The thing that’s so great is that it seeks to denormalize all the borderline (and outright) criminal rhetoric that has become more common in Republican political circles. I mean, he’s right: how is calling for the murder of people who do not demonstrate sufficient purity of his views not constitute a crime? It’s simply a different point of view that he is threatening with murder. And he’s not “just joking”, if that’s gonna be his defense after getting called on it. What Greiten’s saying should be considered criminal incitement and prosecuted as such.
  10. Yes! More political ads from Democrats like this, please!
  11. Beware of copycat one-upmanship.
  12. You know the eventual progression of all this, if unchecked, will be MAGAs hunting and killing everyday people simply because they are not MAGA. Of course, we'll all be long gone by then, once they start scraping boards like this and pairing up screen names with PII.
  13. Among others.
  14. Complete Kremlin nonsense, as usual. It’s not as though Trump is trying to withdraw from public life while the media keep dragging him back into the spotlight against his will, or anything like that. He’s an ex-President who is still actively doing fundraising, holding political rallies, showing up at political conferences, giving interviews, posting on social media about people in the political sphere, and is already on record seeking the presidency in 2024. He is also the animating force of the Republican Party, and every politician in that party positions themselves one way or another explicitly in relation to Trump. I can’t count how many commercials for different candidates I’ve seen while traveling through red states recently, in which candidates brag about being endorsed by Trump, usually while shooting computer monitors or piles of newspapers with an AR-15. Trump is very much trying to stay in the game, by his own efforts, and he has succeeded in keeping himself on the scene. He has kept himself relevant, for bad and for worse, and thus he is always fair game.
  15. I do wonder how much of this rosy news we can trust, through the fog of constantly shifting disinformation efforts.
  16. He can’t work with insurance companies because they might require minimum prices for some, but I’ll bet a lot of these drugs cost less through Cuban than these same drugs discounted by insurance prior to deductibles being met.
  17. “Pigskin Pete predicts …” Sure. I think he was on 3WE out of Cleveland which we can get in Michigan on a good ionosphere day.
  18. Good thing he's not John Paciorek!
  19. Of course, and like I said there are no Hall of Famers on that list. It's a fairly random collection of players. Still: beats the hell out of 0-for-5 with four strikeouts.
  20. I beat you because you wasted your time typing. 😁
  21. TORK! with the blop single. And the fifth run comes in on a practically patented Javy slide.
  22. Here an interesting way of looking at it …
  23. Yes, I meant Pete Davidson. I wasn’t thinking of Pete Franklin. I was thinking of Pete Davidson and said Pete Franklin by mistake. I have basically been doing for Pete Davidson’s entire career. I blame Pete Franklin for that.
