  1. I’ll be missing most of this game tonight because two of my four children that still live in town are hosting a late Father’s Day celebration occurring tonight due to logistics. Often times my absence is a boon when it comes to winning these games so I hope that’s the case tonight.
  2. They had 3 inches of rain in the Tampa area in the last 24 hours but only a quarter of an inch is expected today. Saturday and Sunday looks pretty good.
  3. Yelling at a player and acting out from the safety of the stands is a gutless thing to do. There is a degree of acceptability in these exchanges but it’s easy to cross the line if you get caught up in the moment. I say this as a person guilty of this activity who crossed the line unknowingly at the time and is mortified after the fact. What I did was surely not worthy of ejection but it reflects poorly upon me. I don’t think it’s a final referendum on my overall character, but it’s not something I’m proud of. The group psychology engendered by spectatorship is weird.
  4. We should worry about every team we play, but I don’t think Tampa Bay is like facing a buzz saw. Yes, they could certainly hand the Tigers asses to them, but the Rays lost a series to the Red Sox on the road. They did indeed beat the mighty Yankees 3-zip in Yankee Stadium, but the Yankees were slumping. And they just finished splitting a series with Baltimore at home. Our team takes every team seriously, but they don’t tremble in front of them either. I’m looking forward to watching these games. Two of them are day games beginning at 12:10 PM, pretty early because of the heat I’m sure. And for me these games begin at 10:10 AM and for people on the west coast an hour earlier. For me, this is the very definition of convenience because I don’t have to sit around like a puppy dog waiting to be fed all day long.
  5. The Tigers still have the best record in baseball. In our own division, we have leads of 10.0, 10.5, and 11.0 over our closest competitors. And although the Rays are a darn good team, they are slightly weaker at home than on the road. Then we play the Athletics at home with a day off in between. I like our chances.
  6. Loss. We won the series, which is the idea. And it’s a moral victory to come back from 4–0 but that’s not something to get the warm fuzzies about. It’s just baseball.
  7. What was the guy in the stands doing? It’s unclear.
  8. 8-4. Oh well, solid hits seeing eye hits all they’re getting is hits.
  9. All we needed was a couple weak pop ups, and a simple grounder but no.
  10. 6-4. Hurter just can’t limit the contact.
  11. Well, I guess we’re going into extras
  12. Five seconds later, though it changed to rain.
  13. The Yahoo weather app powered by weather underground says there’s no rain on its driveway.
  14. Hey mlb.tv got the TV feed working again for phones. too little too late…
  15. I hope no one pops a knee out of joint putting the tarp on.
  16. The umpire has entered the Pirates dug out?
  17. Vest strikes out McCutcheon with two on two out. This was the game hanging in the balance. Now for the dramatic walk off.
  18. Guess we’ll have to settle for a walk off.
  19. Score run score runs get this game in. Tommy shuts them down in the 8th.
  20. I had totally given up and written this game off. I’d even started watching David Lynch’s Twin Peaks The return for the 12th time. But I decided to check back in. Whoa!
  21. Man that swing by Keith was totally unlikely. Wish Carp had kept the line moving.
