  1. I’m hoping to see the Tigers vs. the Padres in the World Series. And not only because I like the way it turned out last time < cough cough choke > 40 years ago. It would be an underwhelming spectacle for commercial interests and for temporary, fair weather fans who like football more than baseball anyway. It would basically be a big “fail” for everyone but us, and for people who like all varieties of David vs. Goliath narratives. And I’m honest enough to admit that I would take pleasure in this even though it’s probably kind of small for me to do so.
  2. I’m OK with growing our own purple pixie dust buds in our underground climate controlled hydroponic greenhouse, and seeing how that turns out. In addition to filling a few blanks that don’t cost $60 million a pop.
  3. Hey Beaver, I can’t get over it, but I’m still basking in the afterglow of both the Orioles and the Astros being eliminated. And to think that only a few days ago you were perturbed by the possibilities and challenges these two teams presented. You acted like they were really an obstacle! And you made a big deal about it. Ha! <snicker>
  4. Anyone here willing to manage the Miami Marlins?
  5. The nauseating air quality that tortured Idaho and much of the Northwest for two months has returned as smoldering embers of fires thought conquered by rain and smoke jumpers burst back into flame thanks to stiff winds. After all this time I finally realized my Detroit Tigers Covid mask could protect me from the smoke and never once noticed the smell of burning plastic or rubber in the air until I took off the mask. At least there isn’t ash and incinerated pine needles falling from the sky as it was a few weeks ago, but it still sucks. GO TIGERS ANYWAY!!!
  6. All I can think of for the off day in between the first two days in Cleveland is that MLB doesn’t want too many games on at the same time for commercial reasons.
  7. I can’t believe I have to go all the rest of today and all day tomorrow until there’s a game on Saturday and then there’s another off day on Sunday!
  8. Scott Harris would be an unprofessional dilettante if he bailed on Detroit — which is a crowning example of his ability at work as much as it is a job that needs to be finished as well as a work in progress — just because he loves the Bay Area so much. I seriously doubt that he’s that shallow.
  9. I’m not sure I don’t think so. On my home TV my son has subscribed to the highest tier possible so I can see everything. But here where I’m staying in Central Idaho in the mountains I don’t think my friend has the top tier and I don’t see any indication that you have to buy an add-on. I guess I’ll find out Saturday, but Max is still telling me that this game will begin at 9 AM mountain standard time. I don’t know about pausing on baseball but I can pause on cycling races.
  10. https://climbingtalshill.com/posts/astros-have-no-reason-to-be-worried-wild-card-game-1-defeat-vs-tigers-01j951qjdfvp?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR0uch4oFJtocBxSSqAd6XabnEf0BsGtYeI6EKCPPYblouKnRI9BbGN4trU_aem_ZX9mIC1EDRWngjzLSK3Zzg The arrogance of this article boasting that the Astros have nothing to fear from the Tigers warms the cockles of my dark cinder of a heart.
  11. MAX is carrying all AL playoff games including the pennant championship series. It’s a very serendipitous situation if you already have MAX.
  12. When I’m listening to the radio on my phone, I always have AtBat up and it’s usually a pitch ahead of radio, but there were times today when Dan was a pitch or two ahead of AtBat, which had never happened until today. I heard that Minute Maid Park had some technical issues today and I wonder if this anomaly was a part of that.
  13. A graphic on ESPN’s coverage of that eighth inning said that in 47 straight playoff games with a lead in the eighth inning the Astros had won every single game. That streak came to an end today.
  14. I hadn’t run across that wow thank you so much for posting it. I listened to it on the radio in my car but wow.
  15. Yes, this playoff run kind of takes the cake for being unexpected and redefines the word “miracle“ for baseball.
  16. Two hours of pregame seems like too much foreplay to me. I think over two hours I would get interested, more interested, very interested, but then I’d suddenly lose interest in the pregame.
  17. I’m up here in the mountains of Central Idaho and staying at my friend’s place where his adequate DSL Internet is set to be shut off October 9. Which means I’ll have to drive two hours south back home to Boise if I want watch games. But if I should perchance become acclimated to this place more than I have in the past -because usually, after five or six days, the isolation makes me sort of batty - I can still listen to Dan on the radio. And I have to tell you, I don’t know if I could’ve enjoyed this game anymore watching it on TV than hearing Dan describe it on the radio today. This is a week away, and a lot can happen in a week. GO TIGERS!
  18. Yeah, that photo I took of the TV said 9 AM which I thought had to be Squirrley. It’s probably wrong. I suppose that Max will fix it.
  19. Mountain time zone; parts of Idaho are even in Pacific time, but I’m in mountain time two hours earlier than eastern.
  20. Here I am isolated in central Idaho, surrounded by a bowl of mountains, and nobody to hold my hand during this cardiac of a game, but at 9 AM on Saturday morning — that’s right 9 AM according to MAX — I can watch the Tigers play the Guardians in the first game of the next series.
  21. Who cares about Tigers being the lowest rated team in the odds **** that.
  22. I can’t believe this happened. I just can’t believe it, but it did.
