Screwball Posted Monday at 06:25 PM Posted Monday at 06:25 PM Short sellers used to be the gumshoes of the markets. They sniffed out the fraud, waste, and BS. I'm guessing most are out of business or broke by now thanks to all the money printing and this current bubble of all bubbles. Quote
gehringer_2 Posted Tuesday at 07:54 AM Posted Tuesday at 07:54 AM SB - I happened across a football film breakdown podcast, and the all the commercial inserts were from an outfit called CROP America and they all featured Ohio farm families talking about how leasing some of their land for solar panels was saving their family farms. Lots of cute sheep munching grass under the installations, etc. Is this getting to be legit or it just PR noise? Quote

I found their website https://cropamerica.com As an aside traveling thru the Dakotas and Montana this Summer there were a number of windmill farms cohabitating peacefully with cattle. Also thru southern Ohio Quote

I'm about 50 miles SE of Toledo and I can't say I've ever heard of the company nor noticed any solar farms around here. I go from here to Toledo once every few months. Same with Columbus. I'm talking farms. On the other hand, the state college I taught at build a solar farm on campus over the last year. I don't know if had anything to do with that company or not. Over around Findlay, if you drive down I75 you can see some large windmills. Those have been there for around 7 years (?) and were funded by Whirlpool and Ball Corporations, so not affiliated with that company either, but alt energy just the same. There is a small solar farm on the east side of town but I don't know anything about them. I have heard people talk about large solar farms in the area, but I don't remember where. Right now our farmers are probably worried about their harvest this year. We are in the middle of a huge drought. Soy beans are like bee bees. Quote
CMRivdogs Posted Tuesday at 02:38 PM Posted Tuesday at 02:38 PM One of the issues around here is growth in the Richmond exurbs that extend into our portion of James City County and New Kent County. Bringing in more large subdivisions. There is one across the main subdivision road from us that's expected to bring about 1500 homes into the area. That land was once owned by a now defunct hunt club. A large portion is preserve and will remain that way. Still a lot of growth and an issue for those want things to remain the way they were in 1980. There are a couple of farms up for sale, not huge but big enough for an industrial site or warehouses or more homes depending on what the county board approves. The old timers don't want homes, or warehouses or strip malls (we could really use a grocery store) or even solar farms. The reality is the original owners have either passed or wanting to retire and their kids have moved out of the area and have no interest in the property. My feeling is in the meantime or even in the long run a company like the company posted wants to lease or buy property for something that really isn't intrusive do it. I'd rather see that than another old house and outbuilding falling down along the highway. Quote
Deleterious Posted Tuesday at 03:39 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:39 PM My aunt owns property south of Houghton Lake and was offered $2,600 a year to have a cell tower placed on her property. She declined because where they wanted to place it would have been visible from their house. Sounds like she would have accepted if they placed it on the back half of the property out of view. We rented a house on Nantucket for a few weeks this August. They have a very large wind farm about 15 miles offshore and very visible from the Atlantic side of the island. Kind of shocking to see for a day or two, but after that we barely noticed. We both said it wouldn't stop us from living on that shore. Quote

They are pretty rabid about things there, I found out. The three things I heard them complain the most about. 1. wind farm 2. Something called Roller Rabbit. There is a chain store ban on the island, and somehow this place snuck through recently. They were ordered to close and refuse. People are furious. 3. An influencer is renting out a big house, then charging her fans to come stay in the house. She is contacting local businesses and asking for handouts in exchange for mentions. I laughed when told the influencer story the first time. I figured it was something nobody would care about. A few days later I open the WSJ and they wrote a big story about it. I just tossed the tablet down and went for a walk. 1 Quote

Looking at the longer term trend, July/August would normally be the best months for homes because of the large number of people who want to move before school starts. The outliers have been the last couple of years when there was virtually no July/August bump at all. Edited Wednesday at 05:52 PM by gehringer_2 Quote
Deleterious Posted Wednesday at 08:15 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:15 PM Their balance sheet must look a lot worse than I thought. The government, Nvidia, and Apple can provide cash. But none of them can provide what Intel really needs, manufacturing knowledge. They are just burning cash until they receive that. Quote

Screwball Posted yesterday at 12:41 AM Posted yesterday at 12:41 AM Unrelated, but I like to watch the market through the charts and my brokers trading software. It gives you much better news too. Unfortunately, my main computer developed an issue a week ago, so it is in getting a tuneup so I haven't been able to do that. My point, while getting fixed, we added an extra ssd drive and more memory. Already has a kick ass NVDA card, so this should be a faster rocket when done. The cost of ssd drives and memory is so cheap it's crazy. I think I spent 2500 bucks back in...I don't know...early 90s for a kick ass rocket ship with a 500 mb hard drive, 8 mb of memory, and a couple of floppy drives. I just spent less than a hundred for gigs. How far we have come. And to think, today, I carry around a memory stick that would hold thousands of that computer. Then there is our phone... I'm old. I remember the days before computers. Now we need huge data centers, apparently. Makes you wonder where it all goes next? Quote

gehringer_2 Posted yesterday at 02:55 AM Posted yesterday at 02:55 AM (edited) Here is another display of the same data given as % change Yr over Yr. What stands out in this view is how steep the recent lines are in both directions. A lot of over and under compensation/reaction around Covid and what looks like the beginnings of another rapid run up in the making. Edited yesterday at 02:56 AM by gehringer_2 Quote
