buddha Posted April 21 Posted April 21 if that's how the refs are going to call the toronto-ottawa series then its going to be over really quickly. Quote
lordstanley Posted Saturday at 01:33 AM Author Posted Saturday at 01:33 AM (edited) Habs starting goalie Montembeault knocked out of Game 3 with injury. Backup Dobes in net. But in case he gets hurt too, a Montreal cop has suited up as emergency backup. Edited Saturday at 01:38 AM by lordstanley 1 Quote
Hongbit Posted Saturday at 02:26 PM Posted Saturday at 02:26 PM And so it begins again. LA up a goal with under 7 minutes to go and looking to take a commanding 3-0 lead over the Oilers. Kane scored a scrappy goal around the net that was reviewed for a kick and upheld. Shockingly and completely mystifying, Jim Hiller on the Kings bench challenges for goaltender interference in a 4-4 game on the road in the playoffs!!!! Call quickly upheld leading to an Oiler PP. It took all of 10 seconds for Draisitl to make an amazing pass to set up the GWG. They tack on 2 ENG to make it a 7-4 victory. We’ve all see this story before and the only question now is will it be Oilers in 6 or 7. 1 Quote

X isn’t exactly a source of measured commentary at the best of times, but I was watching the game with a friend last night and immediately after the decision to challenge we pulled up X to see the reaction. It did not disappoint. Quote
lordstanley Posted Sunday at 02:29 AM Author Posted Sunday at 02:29 AM (edited) Leafs fail to score on 4 minute powerplay in OT. Sens go on to win. Could be a series turning point? Or at least make Leafs fans sweat for a few days Edited Sunday at 02:42 AM by lordstanley Quote

I’ve been wrapping up my taxes this weekend in advance of Canada’s April 30 filing deadline. Writing a fat check to the CRA sure doesn’t give me nice thoughts about Ottawa, that’s for sure. 1 Quote
Hongbit Posted Monday at 03:08 AM Posted Monday at 03:08 AM Omg. Jim Hiller!! Corey Perry hits the puck with a high stick over his shoulders but under the cross bar. Normally a good goal if it’s straight in but he hit it again with his stick to make it go in. That means the initial touch was a high stick and play should stop. Refs dont call it and gun shy Hiller doesn’t use the challenge. Quote
lordstanley Posted Monday at 04:25 AM Author Posted Monday at 04:25 AM (edited) Oilers on the brink ... and then tie it with around 30 seconds to go. What an interception by Bouchard on an attempted clear by Byfield. Edited Monday at 05:15 AM by lordstanley Quote
lordstanley Posted Monday at 05:11 AM Author Posted Monday at 05:11 AM (edited) That was a helluva overtime. Oilers win it on a powerplay goal 19 minutes in. Edited Monday at 05:17 AM by lordstanley Quote
Hongbit Posted Monday at 11:37 AM Posted Monday at 11:37 AM LA is the best home ice team in the league at 31-6-4. They will have to exorcise its demons past and present and find two more wins at home. It just doesn’t seem possible with the way they have failed to close this series. Oilers with an unbelievable 11-5 advantage in the 3rd period. How you give up 11 goals in the final period over only 4 games is unbelievable. That doesn’t count the overtime winner last night. Quote

The difficulty is the rule is below normal shoulder height. If a player is bent over it could be above their shoulders and still be ok. The Fiala goal is an example as he was crouched down and it was played above the shoulder but wouldn’t have been had he been at normal height. Perry isn’t crouching and is at normal shoulder height. The puck is clearly hit above his shoulder and should’ve been called. 1 Quote

buddha Posted Tuesday at 10:46 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:46 PM stevie was testy and not all engaged at the presser. i assume part of that is his disdain for the press and his obvious competitive nature leading to a hatred of being questioned by folks he doesnt respect. but i also detect a hint of "i dont know if i want to do this anymore" in his vibe. could be wrong, but it seemed to be hovering on the edges a bit. other information from the presser: they dont sound all that pleased with cossa's progress. tuomisto needs to get faster? ummm...he's not going anywhere, wallinder has a better shot. danielson and the others need to show out in these playoffs to be on the "kasper track". his comments on tarasenko and gustafsson were depressing. kane is likely coming back. gehringer_2 Posted Tuesday at 11:50 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:50 PM I think he was still stewing over Larkin - I imagine he felt 'betrayed' by him in a way - but Yzerman has to realize that he is management and Dylan is the guy dealing with the locker room. McClelllan absolutely looked like he wanted to be somewhere else and the worst thing to come over loud and clear is that Todd thinks his group is mentally weak - and you don't coach your way out of that, you need to turn over the roster. And there-in was the disconnect - Yzerman repeatedly talking about the need to win with who they've got, while McClellen talked about the guys they've got not being able to win -- albeit while giving lip service to trying to make them better. buddha Posted yesterday at 12:29 AM Posted yesterday at 12:29 AM so much for the prospects making great playoff progress. down 4-0 midway through the 2nd. cossa pulled after giving up 4 goals. not exactly rising to the occasion. Quote
Jason_R Posted yesterday at 01:03 AM Posted yesterday at 01:03 AM I watched the first fifteen minutes. Maybe I didn’t see enough but what I watched I saw pretty much what I’ve seen from Steve before. He doesn’t like the press, he doesn’t like missing the playoffs, and he doesn’t like lack of accountability. That was all on display. I also didn’t see any tension or disagreement between Steve and Todd. I got the sense they coordinated their messages. Boys, it is time to grow up. You are making a lot of money. You could have made the playoffs and you should have made the playoffs. Dylan, you wear the C and bitching to the press is unacceptable. I thought it was fair and reasonable and expected. Quote

I think to a degree, McClellan was giving Yzerman cover arguing the team was good enough to have made it. He harped a lot about game management, but the real problem for the Wings is that even if you make the safe dump to the corner and fall back - the puck is still coming right back at them because most of them still don't fore-check worth a damn and they can't pressure the puck effectively once it gets in their end, and when the other team raises its energy level and start to press, you get 5 wings standing around waving their sticks at passing lanes hoping their goalie can make a stop because they know only way they are getting the puck back is a lucky rebound right back to a Wing. The ability to pressure the puck and take back possession when the game gets competitive is just lacking with this team - has been for years now. The rest is all just noise.
