2/7 10PM EST Detroit Pistons @ Sacramento Kings

So pointless to try and determine which guy is the PG or primary ball handler.  To be good you need at least two guys capable of it and it appears Detroit might have the beginnings of that.  Encourage that and don't try an pigeonhole the young guys.  They each have different strengths so play to them.

Most defenses can not guard or take away multiple perimeter guys.  Take Orlando the other night.  Suggs is their defensive stopper outside and they chose to leave him on Cade when Cade/Suggs were on the court together.  Let Ivey eat if they are going to defend him with Fultz and not double.  They switch up the defensive coverage then switch up who is getting the plays called for them and go back to Cade.

As much as I hate Zeke as a person, he was great at this.  If Joe was going off, Zeke got out of the way and let Joe do his thing.  Every game they would come down and go to Edwards in the post to start the game.  If he hit that first shot, guess who got the ball on possession #2?  Zeke found what worked and would pound the other team with it until they proved they could stop it.  It changes from game to game and even quarter to quarter sometimes.

Don't stick the ball in one guys hands and tell him to go be the lead dog.  Embrace the fact you have two guys capable of it and then find a way to utilize it.

Part of it is poor coaching, part of it is players who get to the NBA without ever having learned much about playing the game, but you wouldn't think in a league with so much money and resource that just getting a team to where it can play the game with some intelligence and awareness would be such a hard thing.

Oh, absolutely, multiple ball handlers over one primary as much as possible.  I wasn't trying to infer moving Cunningham off of the ball all of the time.

I'll admit, I don't know where/if any of the new guys fit into the backcourt.  Heck, I'm trying to handwrite out a flow chart to see who left, who's been waived, who remains on the roster.  But I'd like to see 2 of Cunningham, Ivey, and Sasser in the backcourt at all times going forward.  To your point about Thomas and Dumars, can this trio become a Thomas, Dumars, Johnson type of rotation?  It's a tall ask given there are two hall of famers in there, but can the current version function in the same way with each other and with the other 3 on the court?

Also - Isiah had 4 yrs in the league playing losing parks and recreation style ball with Tripucka before Joe joined the team, so he knew the league and he was ready to learn a new set of tricks that could win more games. Ivey and Cade have have each played one season and only 1/2 a season together. Which is why Wiliams needs to have them out there together  learning how to play off each other as much as is reasonable.
