lordstanley Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Coming off a 4-5-1 month against many tough opponents, the Wings' record or position in the standings heading into November isn't a disaster but they need to play way, way better than they did the first 1/8 of the season, if they're capable. No better time to start that than with tonight's home game against a mediocre opponent. Quote
slothfacekilla Posted November 2 Posted November 2 I have a bad feeling about this game, Tage Thompson is going to score a hatty or something lol Quote
buddha Posted November 2 Posted November 2 they never seem to play well against buffalo lately. lots of winnable games on the schedule this month. they played october like a bottom 5 team. lets see how november goes. Quote
buddha Posted November 3 Posted November 3 much better in the second period. sabres are on a back to back so its time to pour it on in the 3rd. Quote
buddha Posted November 3 Posted November 3 spoke too soon. buffalo all over them in the 3rd. part of that has to be lalonde. they get really conservative in the 3rd with a lead. dump dump dump. throw it to center. dump and change. dump and change. Quote
lordstanley Posted November 3 Author Posted November 3 Can the Wings hang on to the lead for a final 4:10? Quote

I think the irony is that in most sports playing not to lose is a strategy that works best for teams good enough they probably don't need to do it. In hockey if you are good enough to play solid lock down defense to protect a lead your D game is probably good enough you could just play your normal game and it won't matter. If you are a crappy team and lay back, often as not you just find yourself overwhelmed by the pressure. Quote
lordstanley Posted November 3 Author Posted November 3 For the 4th time this season, the Wings win and the Leafs lose on the same night. Quote

gehringer_2 Posted November 3 Posted November 3 Edvinsson and Seider already look like they've been playing together for a whole season. Quote
Shinzaki Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Kinda surprised to see Dahlin played 27+ minutes Saturday...they have a lot of young talent on that blueline, you'd think they spread the minutes a bit more. Quote
slothfacekilla Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Might be the worst two teams in the league playing against each other tonight. Wings get a goal at the end of the first due to some sloppy play from the Hawks, and I thought the Wings were playing sloppy too but hey they scored I guess. Quote

Petry tried to give up a goal at about 17:30, but failed even at that. Quote
lordstanley Posted November 7 Author Posted November 7 Larkin takes the lead back for the Wings. 2-1 Wings late in the 2nd Quote

I can't imagine what SY was thinking he was going to get from JP this season. Edited November 7 by gehringer_2 Quote
lordstanley Posted November 7 Author Posted November 7 Our old pal Petr Mrazek just made a couple of big saves with the Wings up 3-1. Eight minutes to go. Quote
gehringer_2 Posted November 7 Posted November 7 They moved the puck better against a not very good team but man, they need at least one more Dman who is not an outright liability. Quote
slothfacekilla Posted November 7 Posted November 7 I feel like Johansson looks more comfortable every game, I notice him making smart, small plays a lot with passes and gap coverage in his zone. It is a shame he isn't taller but at least he looks better than Gustafsson. I don't mind not re-signing Gostisbehere (their power play is doing better this season without him!) but I hate the Gus signing to replace him. Quote
lordstanley Posted November 7 Author Posted November 7 (edited) By my count, only 3 teams have scored fewer goals this season so far than the Wings' 33: NYI (32), Nashville (31), Anaheim (25). Haven't factored in Games Played, so might be a bit better on a goals per game basis. On the other hand, surprised that in the Eastern Conference only Carolina, Washington and NYR have given up fewer goals than the Wings' 36. Edited November 7 by lordstanley Quote

Haven't focused that much on Gus's individual play, but so far he and Johansson look to me to be doing better than Petry and Chairot. I am liking the way Edvinsson can just smother rushing wingers.
