I have to guess that those rumors on Twitter had a kernel of truth to them. My hypothetical question from the other day just got a lot more real.

Good on the school. Maybe they learned a little something after they stupidly stood behind Juwan Howard. Revenue sports should make money and attract talent to your university. Don't allow your sports programs to give the university a black eye.

I'm having a hard time imagining Cignetti can be bought if Penn State couldn't buy him. But maybe Michigan has a larger vault.

We don't even know though that Penn State tried do we? What media reports leaked out saying that Penn State went after Cignetti and was rejected?

There have been rumors swirling on Twitter and elsewhere for a while. At least a week or two, and I want to say closer to a month. I know I saw them a while ago.

I'm guessing the investigation has been quietly ongoing, but they just received confirmation that the allegations will be substantiated, allowing the firing to be for-cause.

again, the penn state job came open and he immediately signed an extension making him one of the highest paid coaches in the country.  why do you think he did that?

cignetti is also in his mid 60s.  i bet michigan looks elsewhere.

HOPEFULLY, if this sherrone thing has been ongoing for a while, they've out out some feelers and know who might be available.

This. It doesn't Cignetti any good to say "Penn State wanted to interview me but I declined after IU opened their check books" or Penn State to say "damn Cignetti was our number one choice but turned us down"

It smells an awful lot like correlation. But neither side will confirm. And it doesn't mean Michigan won't try, it'd be negligent not to.

These rumors started on November 30th. Crazy how message board rumors end up being true sometimes.

Also, did Warde Manuel just call an unborn child "credible evidence"?

Those rumors sounded so far-fetched it didn't even seem worth it to post them.  Pretty shocking.

"negligent" is a good word to describe the way michigan has managed its football program in the 2000s.

other than harbaugh falling into their lap, i cant think of another smart decision they've made in regards to football leadership since lloyd left.  really, since before lloyd left because they begged him to stay when he wanted to retire and wasnt fully into it.

i wonder what happens to our recruiting class?  speaking of which, did they delay this announcement until after the class signed?  i guess it doesnt matter, they'll all be allowed to leave.

most are here for the money, but i think theyre allowed to leave if a coaching change happens, right?  not sure.

They just passed a new rule.  You get 15 days to enter the portal 5 days after the new coach is hired.  I don't know if this new rule has started or not yet.

Jay Harbaugh? Urban Meyer? Poaching Pat Fitzgerald from MSU? That'd be pretty funny.

A year of Biff Poggi? Dusty May to expand his duties?

Jesse Minter might entertain it, but he'd probably want the NFL cycle to conclude first and they can't sit on their hands until February only for him to go to the Giants.

Yep, players can immediately enter the portal if their head coach is canned or retires. Sayin at Bama for example. 

With that said, the portal opens in a month anyways. 

However, I am assuming new recruits are less likely to enter the portal than decommit over something like this.
