I think when he hits AA it will separate whether he is Bigbie 2.0 or Carpenter 2.0. I don't know if anyone knows that just yet... He has a lot of swing and miss in his game Quote

allpaths35 Posted Sunday at 01:25 PM Posted Sunday at 01:25 PM So if Brady Smith is done for the rest of the season who are we calling up to take his spot. Has Wetwiska done enough to get a shot at WM. Quote

Usually a guy who can handle AA is also going to be able to handle AAA reasonably well and is basically one step away from MLB. I know he doesn't, and never did, have the power of a Carpenter 2.0... But 1,100 PA's in AA with a .320 BA and a .856 OPS and he can't figure out AAA? 665 PA's .250BA/ .652OPS so neither AA or AAA is a small sample size... Which says he's not EVEN a AAAA guy because he can't even perform at AAA. Anyways, I never thought he was a real prospect (Lee asked me specifically that a few years ago)... but it's weird that he couldn't even get past AAA for a Cup in MLB when he did so damn well in AA. I'll maintain my posture on Ankeney though... USUALLY AA is the separator between a guy who's a real prospect versus a guy who is never quite going to make it. I don't see Ankeney's swing-and-miss, as currently constructed, as a death-knell. Less than 30% in low-A, and less than 20% in High-A so far (sss of 57 PA's...). Again, I think swing-and-miss in AA will tell a lot about his chances. Just my 2 cents... 1 Quote

1984Echoes Posted Sunday at 08:49 PM Posted Sunday at 08:49 PM (edited) I didn't see much interesting in the box scores today... Except for Grand Rapids... Where: Jackson Strong went 2-3 today with 2 BB's, a double and a HR. Bryce Rainer went 2-4 with a BB, a single and a HR. Beau Ankeney went 2-5 with two singles and only 1 K (still under 20% K rate at high-A). Nolan McCarthy 2-4 with a HR. (Yes... West Michigan scored a lot of runs today... the bullpen blew up in the 8th and 9th but the team still "held on" to win 12-6). Edian Espinal 3-5 today. Clayton Campbell went 2-4 with a BB, a single and a (yep, you guessed it) ... HR. Oh... and Connor Fenlong had a nice start at 6 inn's, 0 runs, 3 hits, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 6 K's...
