Carrying a $22 million TPE into the season wouldn't be the worst thing.  If someone gets cut or bought out during the season, the Pistons would be in a nice spot to offer money most other teams couldn't.  If some team is looking to sell at the deadline, they could take on a contract or two without sending any players out.  They would probably have to send a pick in that case, but worth it for the right player and assuming they don't go all Dumars and ship it unprotected.

half of these trades are about accumulating salaries, or getting under an apron or a tier, or slotting a salary into someone else's exception.  so who knows what monk brings?  it could be his particular contract terms rather than his actual basketball skill.

unless you're a complete basketball salary junkie, its hard to know.

Could it be some sort of draft capital, either a pick or swap?

Rumors were the original talks broke down because Sacramento wanted picks from us.

While it does help The Kings retain some flexibility, they don't need the S&T to get Schröder.  That limits what we can ask for a bit.  Much better if a team is over the cap and wants a guy, then you can ask for more since they can't just sign him outright.

His contract is actually pretty ugly.  $60 million left over 3 years.  That would put them over the cap next summer, and I'm not even including the potential Duren/Ivey extensions.

Then there is the possibility this is all complete BS.  Someone posted a blurb from the Sacramento Bee saying there is zero truth to Monk being included in a S&T with Detroit.  So who knows.

Say it with me.  No Monk.

I've never rooted so hard for a player exception. Langdon can't possibly be this shortsighted to take back Monk and his ugly contract, right? RIGHT?

Would we be interested in a 3-way if we were receiving Josh Giddey instead?

No. I like Giddey but him and Cade need to be on the ball. So it's a waste of money having both on the roster since Giddey will get starters money.

nope.

he needs the ball in his hands and cade already does that.  cade is also a much better player.  giddey thrived on the bulls' late season schedule of tanking teams and resting teams.  remember when the bulls gave up 71 points IN THE FIRST HALF against the heat in the play in game?  ladies and gentlemen, i give you josh giddey's defensive nous.

he improved once they let the black hole of zack lavine leave, but giddey is really a good offensive sparkplug more than a guy who carries a team, imo.

otoh, if you believe the 3 point shooting is real, then he could be a very useful player.  just not in detroit because his game is too much like cade's and youre not getting him for less than $30m a season at this rate.

plus he really likes 15 year old girls but that's another subject for another day...

let the bulls cap themselves out with a core of two dudes who play zero defense and are streak scorers in white and giddey.  no need for detroit to do that.

Posting here because it could impact the Schröder move.  I have no clue if the trade is official or will be on July 6th.  If it gets cancelled, I don't think Sacramento h as the room to sign Schröder outright and would need to do a S&T then..  That gives us leverage and could get us more in return.

Someone on Reddit made a post last week.  In something like 10 years, Detroit has created 17 TPE's and only used 2 of them in that time.  One was used the day it was created.

So, nice to get it no matter what.  But odds say we won't use it.  Flexibility is nice, though.

Wonder if the holdup is that the Pistons are shopping Monk to see if they can move him along to someone else as part of this S&T for Schroeder. At least I hope that's the hold up and that we aren't serious about adding Monk to this roster.
