Dallas eases their cap crunch slightly by offloading Marchment and his $4.5 million contract to the Kraken for a 3rd in 2025 and a 4th in 2026.

I  hope to God SY has something cooking because that's a guy we should have been in on

Do we think Yzerman enjoys his job? Or if not, does at least he have a burning desire to win again? Because if the Wings miss the playoffs this season I still don’t think he would be fired BUT a mutual decision to part ways wouldn’t be out of the question.

he seems to enjoy the press conferences less and less.

yeah - if Robertson isn't exactly the player they are willing to go hard after we need a new FO.

I want none of that Ken Holland "We like our team" BS out of Yzerman. To your point, if Robertson isn't a guy you go all in for than who? I was a big proponent of the late Johnny G coming to Detroit but I get that he didn't fit their timeline, so I understood why we did bother trying to acquire him. But guys like Robertson, Pettersson, Bennett, they are all three of talented, young enough, and fit the timeline of where we are at developmentally as an organization. I don't want him to blow all our cap space or financial flexibility on only one player, but I want him to be aggressive in trying to acquire a top, under 30 talent for this team.

Well he had a 10 team no trade clause (which I didn't realize) and it is probably fairly likely that the Wings were on it.  Plus:

Unfortunately there are a lot more nuances to trades than just outbidding other teams.

I'm honestly not sure why people assume Yzerman is just sitting on his hands.  There were heavy rumors that we were really in on Stamkos last offseason (thank god that didn't happen with what money he got) and they had a deal worked out for Trouba that Trouba nixed.  I have faith that he is going to try to improve the team through trades and FA but it doesn't always work out.

I am skeptical that a lot of this (or all of this) is likely to happen but this would be a fine offseason

edit: more I think about it I don't think either of those trades get accepted by the other teams

i think calgary would deal andersson buy i'm not sure they'd do a pick swap.  you probably just need to give them a first.  they can get that at the deadline if they just hold on to him, why wouldnt they just wait?  to get ras?  i doubt it.

ehlers at 7×9 is very scary.  how about we buy out tarasenko, get $3.2ish in cap space this year and use it for marner at 7x13?  lol.  pipe dream, i know.  ehlers is more realistic.

robertson is a pipe dream too, imo.  i doubt dallas moves him.  i REALLY doubt they move him to us.

the depth moves make sense.

prashanth hasnt been too critical of yzerman until last offseason (and drafting cossa) with the walman deal.  he still looks at us as contending in seider/raymond prime and that detroit's future is still set up nicely.

but as everyone is noticing these days, the biggest problem in detroit (of many) is their bottom six are useless.  the lot of em.  the draft picks have hit, but the free agents are terrible.

I like the aggressiveness of his offseason plan. He's doing the things I want to do which are dump a bad contract or two, add another defenseman in the top 4 pairing, and get a first line forward to add scoring punch to the lineup and PP. I would swap Robertson or Pettersson for Ehlers as I think both have more upside and are younger than Ehlers. As well, it seems their contracts would only be $2 million more per year than what he is proposing we give Ehlers if we acquired him.
