Mr.TaterSalad Posted Saturday at 06:05 PM Posted Saturday at 06:05 PM Yzerman hasn't had that much success drafting in the 2nd round and most teams don't anyways, so I'm OK with this trade. Trading for Linus Ullmark when he was available from Buffalo could have helped, but you can't win em all or be in on every big trade. Quote
Hongbit Posted Saturday at 06:25 PM Posted Saturday at 06:25 PM Wouldn’t surprise if this was the biggest move of the offseason. Quote

Was that actually part of his long term strategy or did he realize he would stifle this team's progress because he simply isn't good at this point in his career? What was the point of bringing him in? Well they were able to dump Veleno’s useless play for a marginally better player on an expiring contract so they got Veleno off their books and an open roster spot not re-signing Smith. The goalie market is awful this offseason so Mrazek would shore up the tandem for another season unless Yzerman could get an upgrade. And he did! If the Gibson trade didn’t happen Mrazek would have most likely been better than what was available in free agency. 1 Quote

slothfacekilla Posted Sunday at 04:21 PM Posted Sunday at 04:21 PM He was listed at 170 last season so this is great news, hopefully keeps him from getting injured so often 1 Quote

When they said he put on weight did they specify whether it was muscle or fat. I'd hate for him to show up to camp all blown up, looking like mid-2010s Dustin Byfuglien. 1 Quote

Back in 2010 I had a thyroidectomy followed by an open reduction of a snapped humerus (a plate and six screws) a month later. I sat on the couch eating mini Reese's cups for a sugar high to counteract the low thyroid. Gained 35 lbs in a month None of it was muscle... Quote
Shinzaki Posted yesterday at 02:30 PM Posted yesterday at 02:30 PM If we don't get a top six fwd (either a 1LW or a 2C with Marco going back to the top line) and a top 4 D... I will consider this off season to be a failure. You can't run it back plus Gibson and expect people to be excited about where the team is headed Quote

You can't run it back plus Gibson and expect people to be excited about where the team is headed i agree. the only caveat i have is that i would be ok if we see mazur/danielson/and at least one of wallinder or buium on the team. what i DONT want to see is spending term on middling stop gaps. that's how we end up with holl, compher, and tarasenko. i've gone back and forth on buy outs. if theyre not spending on gavrikov or marner (ha!) or even ehlers (who i dont want) this year or trading for someone they need to sign long term (like a miller or byram), then just waive holl and send him to GR and hope for a rebound with tarasenko. no need to saddle them with an extra cap hit next offseason. Gavrikov would be perfect as a left shot, defense first, that plays the top pairing opposite Seider. LA has more cap space and wants him back but his agent wants to see if he can get someone to go above market on him. NYR and LA are still in it with him. It will take a massive ransom for the Wings to land him and I don’t see Stevie Chair Hands doing that. Quote
slothfacekilla Posted yesterday at 04:09 PM Posted yesterday at 04:09 PM Yzerman can't strong arm free agents into signing in Detroit if they don't want to lol Sounds like Red Savage is going to be signing an AHL contract with Grand Rapids Quote

Shinzaki Posted yesterday at 04:59 PM Posted yesterday at 04:59 PM Suter/Parise was a Babcock issue...I think. I think if we become more competitive...we'll attract more talent. Quote
Shinzaki Posted yesterday at 05:06 PM Posted yesterday at 05:06 PM Stevie dumped Tarasenko off on the Wild for "future considerations" Don't know if we retain any of the 4.75 million...would be shocked if we don't 1 Quote
