Apparently with Danielson on the ice against Bedard, the shots were 7-0 in favor for the Wings.  ASP had the most time on ice of any player and Bear led the forwards.  I thought MBN looked really good from the parts I saw.  This was great.

With Danielson, MBN, Finnie and ASP et al...we're starting to see a reason for optimism

Should be a great season for GR.

theyve played well against buffalo and chicago's A- and B teams.

playing well against chicago was probably more impressive just because chicago had a lot of first round picks out there and the wings' players looked better.

keeping in mind that this is just pre season.

lombardi looks good.

as G2 sarcastically indicated, it will be fun to see them all go back to the minors so we can watch compher, rasmussen, and chairot and holl tool around again in detroit.

They're men who aren't particularly good at hockey

Yzerman and McLellan have big choices to make. If they believe that this roster as constructed is a legit playoff roster, then I think it remains largely the same. That means you'll see less of ASP, Cossa, Danielson, Finnie, MBN, Wallinder the younger players and more of Appleton, Compher, Holl, Talbot, the veteran guys. You may, at some point, see some of the younger kids brought into the fold, but I wouldn't expect any of the younger guy, sans maybe Mazur, to see significant minutes per game.

If they believe this roster is not ready for a playoff run, I think they should be making changes to this roster in the form of callups. If the believe that this team either won't make the playoffs at all or would get bounced quickly and decisively if they did, changes must be made. What's the point of missing the playoffs yet again with guys like Appleton, Compher or Holl taking up significant ice time over young guys who could use NHL minutes? What is this organization gaining by having a kid who is mostly or all the way ready being stuck in the AHL, when they could use the valuable experience of playing with NHL competition and speed? How are we developing organizationally and how are these players developing individually if we won't give our guys NHL ice time?

I certainly don't want a young player being called up for the sake of it. They have to be ready, at some level, for their call up. I would not want to call a young player up and watch him immediately fail miserably. But if the young guys are playing well in Grand Rapids and the veteran players up on the NHL roster are underperforming, but still holding these guys back from getting called up, then I'll be upset. We all should be if that's the case.

However, I don't believe this situation will be as bad as it was under Ken Holland. In 2012 Ken Holland had Nyquist in the AHL at 24 years old and Tomas Tatar in the press box at 23 years old, to start the season. That was absurd and ridiculous. All so he could play guys who were washed like Dan Cleary and Mikael Samuelsson, who he kept on bringing back to the organization. I don't think Yzerman is that dense or dumb about when to play younger guys. He's already given some of his younger talent a chance to play significant minutes in the NHL and be foundational pieces for this team.

I hope to see Danielson, Finne, MBN, and Wallinder specifically, sooner rather than later. I would be OK-ish with them waiting and taking more time with ASP and Cossa.

How much does this increase the Wings’ chances of winning the Atlantic?

so they can ltir him and then trade for kaprisov?

I've seen a few people mention Malkin. If Barkov is out for the season, which is he with the ACL surgery today, the Panthers have a new $10 million to play with.

Love to see the positivity in here lol

It’s the time of year where the fan base bashes the front office for decisions they haven’t made yet.

I remember in the '90s some Tigers fans who weren't necessarily hockey fans would look at the then-high flying Wings' success and bash Illitch for devoting too much time to the Wings, which in their minds was at the expense of the Tigers. Then when both the Wings and Tigers were bad the past 10 years, the same people used that to bash Chris Illitch as being obviously incompetent.

I can't blame people for being bitter towards the Wings, but the prospects have been looking good so I am personally choosing to focus on that!  It has been fun seeing them mixed in with our NHL roster, and overall doing pretty well.

Good to hear. These days I hardly pay any attention to the Grapefruit League, NFL training camps or NHL Septembers. Instead I piggy back on the effort of others to keep tabs on developments, ha. Keeps me fresh for opening day and the long season ahead, lol! I continue to lurk on this thread and will probably go through the whole thing the morning of the first regular season game.
