Elias Pettersson is only 26 years old. He had 89 points and 102 points a season ago and two seasons ago respectively. Is a team really doing backflips to get rid of a 26 year old player who is just a season removed from nearly 90 points and two seasons removed from over 100 points because of one down year?

yeah.  at 11.5 million a year for the next five years or so?

no team is trading for that deal.  no sane team.

I would be interested in Pettersson..even with that contract.

Our old pal Pius Suter is a UDFA.  Had a decent year in Vancouver. He could give us some scoring depth in the bottom six

The team that gets him won't have to take it all on though. Canucks are just stuck. Maybe the coaching change can work but otherwise he's useless on that team unless they bring in 19 other new players and any potential trade partner knows they are over a barrel and will drive a hard bargain on how much salary they will risk taking on. Someone will take a flier and either end up very happy or just as screwed as Vancouver.

Wings, with 6 Swedes on the roster, would probably his best landing place, with the big cap jump they'll have room to be interested, but I doubt they will be.

I didn't want Lindholm. I don't remember wanting him anyways. I wanted us to be in on the late Johnny Gaudreau a few years back when he left Calgary.

gaudreau went from 40 goals with calgary to 21 to 12.

it will be really hard to outbid anaheim and chicago.  we might be better off being a cap repository for vegas and/or florida if they need to create space by selling low on some of their players.

anaheim has $30m in cap space with 20 players signed.

the hawks have $25m in cap space with 20 players signed.

the wings have $19m in cap space with 14 players signed.  do you spend 13-14 of that on marner?  the ducks or hawks could give him that and not bat an eye.

this is when compher, copp, holl, rasmussen, tarasenko, and (to a lesser extent) chairot contracts come back to bite you.

Yup - this is the bigger failure of the Wings front office. A bad team should at least have gotten itself into position to outbid the teams they need to catch.

Rangers are allegedly shopping K'Andre Miller.  I imagine it would be a high-ish price but could be an intriguing avenue for the Wings to bolster their backend

Incidentally, I think the other Miller, JT, age 32, 70 pts in 72 games this season and 103 pts last year, 5 more years left on a $8mm/year cap hit, would have been an interesting pick up when the Canucks got rid of him for Chytil, Victor Mancini, and a 1st rounder. Sounds like he really wanted to go to NYR though.

Life would be positively unfair if the Panthers got Marner. Too add Mitch Marner to a front line that already includes Bennett, Marchand, Rinehart, Tkachuk would be disgusting. Amazing that Florida can have that level of talent and still be under the cap enough to add Marner. Meanwhile, we're stuck here with the likes of Copp, Compher, Holl, etc.

I wouldn't be shocked if guys like him and Kreider aren't being shopped around too, but just a guess.  Maybe they aren't looking for a hard reset though.

I didn't realize Miller had that many years left on his deal, wonder what his game looks like in those last 3 or so years.

He would probably have to take a pretty big pay cut relative to what other teams could offer if he signed in Florida.  I guess they could fill out their roster with cheap scrubs if they wanted to go that route, but it looks like to me they have a lot of roster spots to fill with the $18.5 million cap space they'll have.  Unless I'm reading their situation wrong haha.

I'd be interested.

I'd also be interested in Mason Marchment who the Stars might move for cap purposes (just a rumor... to chase FA's?)

I wouldn't hate it!  It would be interesting to see what their trade value is.

Someone (probably AI) proposed Berggren and a 2nd for Marchment.

But I'm thinking this would need to be a 3-teamer with a salary going out the door plus a 3rd and 4th (we have an extra pick in each round...

Something like Berggren and a 2nd to the Stars for Marchment and Tarasenko (or...?) plus the extra 3rd and 4th to (?) whichever team wants an extra 3rd and 4th...

I mean, those could be two separate trades...

max bultman proposed that.

tarasenko has zero value.  negative value actually.  the only way the stars part with marchment is to get rid of salary, they wouldnt take back 4.5 million of uselessness.
