I think one thing we can all agree on is that it’s fun to see Alex Bregman watching the team he spurned beat him and the team he chose.

Not really. I like seeing the Red Sox lose, but Bregman is having a great year which is what you claim is all he wanted.

Does he use the same diplomacy with other teams that were involved in the bidding?  Did he tell the Chicago and Toronto media that he thought all winter that he was going to become a Cub/Blue Jay?

Did he not?

I like Bregman as a player which is why I wanted the Tigers to get him.  I am happy he is doing well and still wish the Tigers signed him.  It's not like he's "Big Papi" or something!  I am also happy the Red Sox are not doing well.

Also, I believe most people here were originally from the Detroit, so they have some pride in the city and some may even have a chip on their shoulder about  people putting it down.  My only connection to Detroit is the Tigers.

I don't know.  I know he said that about the Tigers and I don't think it's something he had to say.  He could have said they had a good organization and he knows Hinch and it was a difficult decision.  He didn't have to say he though all along he would be a Tiger.

This is totally a thing.  Every sports success is part of reassembling the parts of the damaged soul of each person who lives the resentment of "nicer" places.

The reason Tiger fans boo him is because he gave an impression, maybe it's wrong to assume this impression, that he was only going to sign with Detroit because nobody else was out there, not that Boston made him a much better offer.  Kind of like resigning yourself to going to the dance with the ugly girl because nobody else is saying yes, until the prettier girl does.

To give him the benefit of the doubt, he probably felt his asking price was fair and legit and the Tigers didn't quite meet it and they aren't going to bid against themselves so he was holding out for what he felt he deserved.  Why should the Tigers artificially set the market for him all by themselves? Then he got an offer that either met that or came closer to it. Nobody did anything wrong.  That's negotiations.

Boras played the biggest role. Detroit's offer was mostly leverage for him. Boston eventually ponied up. He is tearing it up with Boston and they have a ton of young talent. 3/120 with opt-outs is a good deal
