So....is Carpenter back?

According to Google AI, which hallucinate stuff all the time so for what it’s worth:

“Carpenter has been participating in a return to play running progression, as well as hitting and defensive drills daily. He's even been cleared to face live pitching at the team's spring complex during the All-Star break. This suggests that he's progressing well in his recovery and could be ready to rejoin the lineup soon after the break concludes.”

Ain't gonna lie, I'm a little nervous going into the second half. I'm not predicting a collapse or anything like that, but the team did come into the break playing merely .500 ball over the past month. Our bullpen was baseball's worst during that period, and even our starters were bottom half on some measures. Our hitting has been great during that period, which is why we weren't way underwater for the month, although that has also tailed off the last two weeks as well. Plus, all of a sudden, catcher and center field are black holes at the plate, and how do you solve a problem like Trey Sweeney?

I still like our chances to win the division, of course, but I would not be shocked if we end up limping into the playoffs with a .500-ish second half. That would still give us 90+ wins, which is good, better than last year, but that would not exactly qualify as an all-time great season anymore. What would make me feel good about our chances in October would be to see us go 36-29, which is a .554 and 90-win pace, for the rest of the season. That would put us at 95-67 on the year. That's my "goal". I would be very happy with that.

I feel the same way. That essentially what happened in 2006. The team came out on fire for the first 100 games or so, and the was kind of mediocre until the playoffs. Thats the rewards for building such a large lead, it gives you the cushion for the drop off.

Just have to solve the Meadows, Vierling, Sweeny & Rogers hitting woes. Oh yeah.....and the bullpen.  Not an easy task by any means.  Perhaps last year's trade deadline work needs to happen again.  It was addition by subtraction. Hate to see that happen, because these guys are very likable and can be successful. But can the team afford to wait?  It should be a couple of interesting weeks ahead for Tiger fans.

The next 13 games will tell us a lot. Texas and Pittsburgh have very good home records, and then we play red hot Toronto in a 4 game series in Detroit. Then on to Philly to face a NL powerhouse. If we can go 7-6, I'll take it. But our BP is going to need to step up.

I’m going to miss this game because I’m going to a “real game“ and see the Boise Hawks who used to be in the Northwest League but have now fallen into the independent Pioneer League.

Lots of big names used to come through here such as Ken Griffey Jr., Kyle Schwarber, Dontrelle Willis, Gleyber Torres and a host of Angels players. But no more.

Both Boise and Salem were dropped from the NWL I think due to the fact that they had sub-standard stadiums.

First base box seats $24 a seat in the 96° low humidity sunshine, no shelter, no shade.

Hey Bert, tomorrow I’m going to watch the Eugene Emeralds take on the TriCity Dust Devils. It’s part of a 70th anniversary for the team and also the 50th anniversary for the 1975 Northwest League champs. Ironically, this is the last season for the Ems, as they have the same stadium qualification problem. 🙁

I’m sorry to hear that. Also, there are now only just so many teams that can exist on the official minor-league level. I used to live in Tucson, Arizona and it has a metro area population of 1 million people, but it can’t get a AAA team which would be it’s only possible option due to fierce competition or a AA team given that it’s too far away from the Texas League’s geographical base.

Before I go to the game locally, I’m watching the pregame show and Zach was talking about how awesome the All-Star game was and how they tied it up and how the swing off was so awesome and it to me it just sounded like “the emperor has no clothes“ was being denied. I guess it’s fruitless to be upset about this, but I reserve my right to be PO’d.
