Jason_R Posted November 19 Posted November 19 Detroit has lost to both of last year’s Super Bowl contenders and to two division rivals. Not great but not the end of the world. The defense looks good and will still get multiple starters back before the end of the season. The offense just needs to go on a heater. Quote
1984Echoes Posted November 19 Author Posted November 19 The Interior O-Line needs to mature. And 100% health for Decker and Sewell would be great too... Quote
Sports_Freak Posted November 19 Posted November 19 Is MCDC playing 3D chess 3 steps ahead of everyone? Think about it...the Lions destroy teams after we get beaten by them. Call the game a grudge match. So when Detroit plays Philly in the NFC Championship game, we'll have an edge. I could see a Detroit Buffalo Super Bowl. And we owe Buffalo a beating.... Anyway, thats my theory and I'm sticking to it. 😅😅 Quote

With players of this caliber returning to a defense that is fifth best in YPG allowed and tenth in PPG allowed, hopefully we can get back to more splash plays defensively that shorten the field for the offense. 1 Quote

It used to be said that defense wins championships. I guess not so much anymore .. Quote
GalagaGuy Posted November 24 Posted November 24 The more I look at the remaining schedules, the more I see that final game against the Bears deciding the last playoff spot. I think the Packers win the division due to having one less loss and the winner of the Lions @ Bears being the 7 seed. Quote

MichiganCardinal Posted November 25 Posted November 25 Looking at the remaining schedules, I like the Lions odds regardless, but I like them a lot more with a win on Thursday. Detroit: vPackers, vCowboys, @Rams, vSteelers, @Vikings, @Bears Barring a total collapse, which feels unlikely despite the teetering nature of the last few weeks, the Lions should finish no worse than 11-6. Green Bay: @Lions, vBears, @Broncos, @Bears, vRavens, @Vikings If the Packers can sweep the division and split the Broncos and Ravens, they deserve the division. I don't think Love has it in him though. Chicago: @Eagles, @Packers, vBrowns, vPackers, @Niners, vLions The Bears luck is likely to run out here soon, though I said the same of the Vikings last year. Like the Vikings this time last year, the Bears have a negative point differential. Cards on the table, I think the NFC North finishes: 1. Detroit Lions (12-5) (L @Rams) 2. Green Bay Packers (10-6-1) (Ls @Lions, @Bears, vRavens) 3. Chicago Bears (10-7) (Ls @Eagles, @Packers, @Niners, vLions) 4. Minnesota Vikings (6-11) In such a scenario, the Lions would have clinched the division in week 17 by nature of the common opponent tiebreaker with the Bears, because we beat the Ravens. Would probably be the #3 seed, looking at hosting San Francisco or Seattle in the wildcard round. Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted November 25 Posted November 25 If the Lions don't win on Thursday against the Packers I don't see them as a playoff team any longer. I certainly don't think they win the division with a loss on Thanksgiving, but think their wildcard chances slip quite a bit too. I think if they were to lose, I would put all three of the NFC West teams and both the Bears and Packers in our division ahead of them in the wildcard standings. Quote

To counter that though, if they lose Thursday and ultimately finish 11-6, I'll be shocked if they don't make the playoffs. It's possible of course, but it would be the biggest snub since the 2008 Patriots who went 11-5, and that was in a six-seed playoff format. If they are 7-5 on Friday and can't at least beat the Cowboys, Steelers, Vikings, and Bears to finish 11-6, then they don't really deserve to be in the playoffs anyway. That is all to say, I think I like the Lions schedule the most of the three. Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted November 25 Posted November 25 This NYT Article is a good math nerds take on what I was saying, if you can get around the pay wall. If the Lions go 3-3 to end the season 10-7, which is below what I think their floor should be, they have an above 95% chance to make the playoffs. It doesn't say, but I would guess 11-6 has got to be around 99%. Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted November 25 Posted November 25 The 49'ers remaining schedule is at Browns, Titans, at Colts, Bears, Seahawks with a bye in week 14. They are currently 8-4 and we are currently 7-4. I think they could realistically go 3-2 down the stretch with wins over the Browns, Titans, and Bears. Putting them at 11-6. The Seahawks remaining schedule is Vikings, at Falcons, Colts, Rams, at Panthers, at 49'ers. They are currently 8-3 and I think they could realistically go 5-1 down the stretch with wins over the Vikings, Falcons, Rams, 49'ers, and Panthers. Putting them at 13-4. The Rams remaining schedule is at Panthers, at Cardinals, Lions, at Seahawks, at Falcons, Cardinals. They are currently 9-2. I think they could realistically go 5-1 down the stretch and finish 14-3 overall as they look dominate right now. The Bears remaining schedule is at Eagles, at Packers, Browns, Packers, at 49'ers, Lions. They are currently 8-3 and I do think they are the most prone to falter as many of their wins this season have come against bad teams. I think they could realistically go 3-3 down the stretch with wins over the Browns, Packers at home, and Lions at home and losses to the Eagles, Packers on the road, and 49'ers. I could also see them going 2-4 dropping both games to The Packers or dropping the game to us at home. The Packers remaining schedule is at Lions, Bears, at Broncos, at Bears, Ravens, at Vikings. They are currently 7-3-1. I think with a win on Thursday they could realistically go 4-2 down the stretch with wins over the Lions, Bears at home, Ravens at home, and Vikings on the road. I think if we lose on Thursday we end up going 3-3 down the stretch with wins over the Cowboys, Steelers, and Vikings all at home. Then losses to the Rams and Bears on the road, in addition to the Packers at home. That puts us at 10-7 overall, tied with the Bears. We could also also win the Bears game on the road and make it into the playoffs at years end over them. I think the Lions, Bears, and 49'ers are all on the same plane, playing at a similar level. I really feel like The Packers are on our level too, it's just that they beat us already to start the season and we looked awful when we played them. Their offense has been sputtering as of late, which could be an advantage for us on Thursday. I do sort of feel like 3 teams might make it out of the NFC West as of right now. I am by no means convicted in that stance as The 49'ers look lackluster on offense right now, just as The Packers do. Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted November 27 Posted November 27 So Paschal was supposed to come back Week 4 when the season started and now he's out for the season. Why are we not getting the full story on Paschal? Quote

Hongbit Posted November 28 Posted November 28 (edited) Figure they need to go 4-1 to get in the playoffs. Don't see 3-2 getting it done. That means they have to find a way to win against either Dallas or LA. Edited November 28 by Hongbit Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted November 28 Posted November 28 (edited) My thought going into last year was that they might have a step backwards season before they finally got all the way home and I thought that would be last year and it turns out to be this year. The Super Bowl window is FAR from closed. And while making the playoffs might be a challenge this year, it certainly isn't hopeless. First place schedules are harder and when you are the hunted team, you get everyone's A-game. Nobody needs to be fired (well maybe Morton) and nobody needs to be released. They need to repair that offensive line in the offseason. And find a better OC. I do wish Campbell would stop going for it on almost every 4th down. We have an outstanding kicker, you can use him before the very end of the game. Edited November 28 by Motor City Sonics Quote

That could have made a difference in the recent losses where we couldn't make any 4th down conversions. Quote
