how much draft capital are they giving us to take that contract off their hands?

if not, no need to revisit.

Yep, I wouldn't take Petersson for free with no assets going to the Canucks unless they retained at least $3mm per year of the $11mm cap hit. At $8mm a year I'd probably risk Danielson and a 1st.

In other ex-Wings news apart from Fabbri, Anthony Mantha at 31 y.o. has his most goals since 2019, at 21. At 21G 24A 45Pts he is just 4 away from his career-best in goals and 3 away from his career-best in assists.

It strikes me that is he is still playing a strong defensive game but has disappeared on offense it's because there is still too much ill will with his teammates. Your defensive assignments are more individual, less need to trust and be trusted by line mates or want them to succeed or them wanting you to succeed. Just more confirmation of what is already known; he is on the roster but not the team.

I'd have cautious optimism if he performed well for Sweden in the 4 Nations or Olympics but he really didn't.

why would anyone want that guy on your team?  he would be making more money than seider, larkin, and raymond.

THAT'S who you want as your highest paid player?  because he once had 100 points before turtling in the playoffs.

please stevie.  please dont do it.

acquiring him would be a HUGE leap of faith.

but where there is this much smoke, there has to be some fire.  if the wings are truly interested in him, they must think they can tap into that potential in a way vancouver cant.  that the wings locker room and history with swedes will bring him out of his funk.

i get it.  but it would just kill me for a team hell bent on acquiring guys "hard to play against" and "tough" would acquire the softest player in hockey.  if they do, it better be because raymond and zetterburg and lidstrom think they can motivate him.

i'm pretty sure some of you have said this already.

but i have my doubts.

Huge risk no doubt - so much so that at minimum it can't on terms that cost them anything other than paying his contract and preferably not all of that.

Right. Imagine if he was a free agent this summer, would someone sign him for 6 years @ $11.6mm? Nope. But that's what contract you'd be taking over.

If Stevie really is interested in EP40 it is because Raymond, along with Hakan Andersson and all the Swede vets, have given him some insider perspective on why they believe he can be rehabilitated in Detroit. But I agree with Lord Stanley that there is no way the Wings will make him their highest paid player.

I don't expect Yzerman to make a splashy move. I expect more of a second pairing defenseman/3rd liner type of move. So I'm not thinking or hoping that we get a guy like Elias Pettersson. I get the temptation around Pettersson, based on his past production and our history of success as an organization with Swedish players. As others have said, this organization, if anyone, could be the one to get him out of a funk and give him the best opportunity to return to form. I just think his contract and more so, his trade cost, will be waaaaaay too rich for Yzerman's blood. And I totally get it.

Robert Thomas is more the guy I want. He's the kind of guy that will work hard every game, unlike Pettersson, and be up at 3AM everyday to practice. He can score at a decent pace around 20 goals a season. More importantly, he can facilitate and give us a true second line center to help distribute the puck to other guys who will be more prolific scorers. You won't push him around either as he's not as soft a player as Pettersson. Assuming the medical reports checkout and he's not just a little unwell, I'd make the trade for Robert Thomas. Do I think Yzerman will trade for Robert Thomas here in the real world? I tend to doubt it. He'll want to hang onto his prospects more than make a win-now, splashy move. Prove me wrong though Stevie, I'd be very happy if you do as this team is ready to take that next step. Just look how far we've come. We'd be ready for the bright lights of the playoffs with a guy like Robert Thomas on our team.

I would be OK with Petterson if we also sent out Compher as part of the package...

compher and rasmussen for petterson and 2nd and a 4th.  vancouver retains $4million on Petterson.

i'd be fine with that but i doubt vancouver would be!  lol.

The problem for Vancouver is they are in a trading paradox. His value to the Canucks is currently negative and other teams know it and that they have to move him. OTOH, his value to another team could be positive, and the Canucks know it and still want something back.

Unfortunately it isn't a video game and you can't force other teams to trade you their best players!  It sounds like the bidding for Thomas is getting intense, Dreger says they're asking the Sabres for:

- Owen Power (1st overall 2021)
- Jack Quinn (8th overall 2020)
- Konsta Helenius (14th overall 2024)
- 1st round pick

Compher is simply for some salary match.

But they would have him for two more seasons after this so... you know... warm body.

Add in Nate and a 1st and a future conditional 2nd (a 1st if the Wings make the playoffs this year and the next...? Just a WAG on what the 2nd pick would actually be like).

I don't know how bad off Vancouver is currently with his situation... but it might possibly force his value to be down by x-amount... ?

Based on this...

I'm OK pivoting to Elias P...

I think Thomas is better... but not that much better...

If Stevie Y can just take advantage of this...

I’m going to the Carolina at Vancouver game tonight. As a sign of how much of a wreck the Canucks are, my ticket was C$51 all-in, or US$38. And that there were plenty in that price range. I can’t recall anytime since the late ‘90s you could get into the arena so cheaply. The Canucks suck but it’s still NHL hockey and I get to see Aho, Svechnikov, Jarvis, Ehlers. I’ll try to get down to the glass during warmups and ask Petersson what the hell is his problem.

... rasmussen ...

PS: Would Vancouver actually stoop this low...?

Or would they take on this chance (their bet/ risk) that they could actually turn Ras into something?

Stupid chance and ****ty risk... but who knows what Vancouver is actually thinking right now...?

so:

edvinsson

kasper

asp

first round pick

wings arent in a position to make that trade.
