8 years isn’t 10.

They’ve done a much better job of acquiring future draft assets during their stretch of ****itude than the Wings.  8 first rounders the last 3 years and they have 4 more coming in the next 2 years.  They also have 5 second rounders too.    Even a blind squirrel has to hit on a few of these.

I like the trajectory of San Jose. Have missed the playoffs 7 straight years but were in the conference finals as recently as 2019 and didn't bottom out until 2024. Of course one can easily ask where they'd be without Macklin Celebrini but they sucked at the right time and won the right lottery, to complement u-24s like Will Smith, William Eklund, Collin Graf (44 Pts in 78 GPs this season from a 23 year old who went undrafted), Michael Misa (moved down 1 in lottery but still got #2 overall in 2025), Igor Chernyshov (16 PTs in 25GP this season from a 2024 early 2nd rounder), Sam Dickinson (69 GP this year from a 2024 #11 overall).

God internet Wings fans would lose their minds if they were on the Blackhawks trajectory, I can't even imagine

I think if we had Connor Bedard to build around instead of Dylan Larkin most internet fans would be elated. I know I would be. I think you'll always find a group of fans that bitch for the sake of it and wouldn't be happy even if we won the damn cup. But if we had Bedard to build around, I suspect this fan base would feel better and be more forgiving of the GM.

I imagine Wings fans would call Bedard a bust at this point if they had him

he was hyped to be the next sidney crosby and he's fallen well short of that standard.

that said, the hype was the problem, not bedard.  he may be more like patrick kane, and i'm sure the hawks would take that.  besides, they used to call kane a disappointment too

I'd put Celebrini, Schaefer and Bedard in that order, but that trio of #1 picks is far superior to the three #1s before them - Slafkosky, Power and Lafreniere - even with Slafkosky coming into his own now and playing like a typical, say, #3 overall pick.

The Red Wings are not without talent. They should be able to bring up Carter Mazur and MBN next year, and hopefully Danielson. They have a really solid defense, which should be intact. Their goalie situation will be better with Cossa joining Gibson. I think the Wings will have two studs on the left side in Carter Bear and Eddie Genborg soon. I think they need to move on from Kane, Perron, and van Reimsdyk. They need to keep their roster younger and fresher. I think the biggest impact next year will come from Cossa, which will allow Gibson to stay fresher longer in the season. I wouldn't bring back a single UFA next year, and I think it's obvious they need to sign Edvinsson to a long term deal.

Right now, I consider their defense to be Edvinsson/Seider, Chairot/Faulk, and Johansson/Bernard Docker. If there's a young player they should consider trading, I would trade ASP only to recoup a first round pick for this year.

I would deal ASP.  too small.

but i doubt you'd get a first round pick back.

woukd anyone attach a 4th rounder to get rid of ras?  what would you attach to get compher off this team?

but what level of talent?  do ANY of those guys profile as a first line skilled scoring winger?  maybe bear?

looks like second and third line guys, which is fine, but not totally what they need.

plus, if history is a guide, none of those guys are going to make a meaningful contribution next year.  if the spine the wings is a bunch of rookies, they are likely to miss the playoffs again.

I think they need some forechecking forwards, and MBN and Mazur fit that bill. I think Kasper can fit well on the first line with Larkin and Raymond.  I also like Finnie on the 1 line, since he's a great skater, and forechecker, and allows Larkin to not have to do too much.

No, I wouldn't trade Rasmussen. He has good size, and was injured all year. I would use every pick possible to get better.

If I had more confidence in the Wings' drafting and development, I'd urge them to insert as many prospects into the big club next season and then ask for a bit more patience. But unfortunately, I'm not. Therefore, since I don't have much confidence in their drafting and development, if I had more confidence in their pro scouting I'd urge the Wings to trade as many prospects as possible while they still have perceived value, in exchange for some contributing NHLers. Unfortunately, I don't have confidence in their pro scouting.

I want Stevie to quit signing mediocre veterans and to instead throw all of our GR prospects into the fire.

There's a new wave of kids just now getting to GR... THEY can get some AHL experience.

I DO want Stevie to go out and sign one free agent, but just one: Whichever biggest, baddest, fastest top line scoring power forward he can find. And the dude may not hit on all those cylinders. In my mind, that's Alex Tuch. Are there any alternative/ better ideas?

That creates a top line of Raymond-Larkin-Tuch. Yeah, I'm good with that.

Signing Tuch may cost us signing back Kane... I'm OK with that, Cat-Copp & either Finnie or Mazur works for me.

The 3rd line I want Kasper-Danielson-MBN. For the entire year. let them grow together. make mistakes... etc. Just a WAG, they'll be significantly better the second half of the season than the first half. Also, they can start in the defensive zone but still push for offense... whereas I want our 2nd line of Cat-Copp-Mazur/Finnie to mostly be starting in the offensive zone. Maybe this 3rd line even pushes past Cat-Copp-Mazur to become the 2nd line? I'm not making any predictions...

It's time to move on from JVR, Perron, Talbot, Compher (dump him to a center-needy team and MAYBE he won't cost us a draft pick to trade him...). If Compher does cost a pick to trade, then just dump his contract and stretch him out. The Wings will just have to learn to play without him on their roster... IMO.

But I think the team should ALSO move on from: Rasmussen. Unless they can get him to start hitting again (he hasn't been the same since getting back from injury last year...). But if they don't believe he will get back to what they need, move him.

Also: Albert Johansson. Decent defenseman, modicum of talent... But I'm going cheap and trading AlJo. I am also bringing up both Wallinder and Buium. Wallinder may be nothing more than a 7th D'man. Fine. He's still cheap as a 7th D. And on back-to-backs the team can sit Chiarot so he has legs by the end of the season. 2nd pair is Buium-Faulk. I mean, he has to earn it... but I'm putting it on his shoulders to do so. What better way to break in a fast mobile defenseman than pairing him with Justin Faulk?

And Chiarot can go where he belongs... to 3rd pair. Matched up with ASP (for offense) or JBD (for defensive purposes).

Whoever is on the bench, Wallinder and JBD...? I am perfectly fine with having them come into games to cover an injury or a back-to-back day off (I think both Chiarot and Faulk should get several games off during the season to save their legs... IMO).

Cossa is up the entire year as Goalie 1A to Gibson. Maybe he shows only as a weak #2... ok, whatever.

It was ridiculous burning Gibson out in March having Talbot starting ONE ****ING GAME the ENTIRE ****ING MONTH (sorry, sorry, excuse the language... but man am I F'ing PISSED at that kind of bull****...! That STEVE Y PUT this team into that situation by riding a SPENT Talbot and REFUSING to bring up Cossa... I am ****ING BURNT over that...!)

If Cossa is so damn good he takes over 1A... awesome. If he's only a 1B in 2026-27... fine. Nothing but a #2, I'll take it. But riding a mediocre aged-out #2 goalie and BURNING OUT Gibson...? If he tries that again in 2026-27 I will just ****ing explode.

Lastly... I want to find 3 players for the 4th line who are BANGERS, BEARS to play against. Maybe they have some offensive talent, that's lees important to me than being tough-to-play-against even against other teams' 1st lines. Is Appleton a part of that? Maybe. Is Rasmussen, maybe, maybe not... and probably much more like: near-zero chance. I think we can find inexpensive players who are flawed maybe (offensively) but are tough as nails to play against in our defensive zone. I don't have the answers for this. I don't have names... And obviously: it's better if this line can convert heavy defensive pressure into SOME kind of offense... and play outstanding PK... But I don't yet have the recipe for this line.

Just my 2 cents.

PS: How desperate is Vancouver?

Rasmussen, Compher, and Albert Johansson to the Canucks for a future 2nd round pick.

Get 'er done Stevie !!!

Would you send a future 2nd round pick to Vancouver in exchange for Evander Kane, Teddy Blueger and Nils Hoglander?

First off... I was being facetious.

Why is everybody getting so serious about a frickin' JOKE?

Kane and Blueger are both free agents after the season. What are you asking exactly, with two of those guys FREE AGENTS? Why are you even including them? What are you trying to pull here?

It was a FREAKING JOKE.

Then again...

I would trade Rasmussen, Compher, and Albert Johansson to the Canucks for Filip Chytil and Drew O'Connor and let the draft picks fall where they may...! GET 'ER DONE STEVIE!!!
