Zakk_Wylde Posted Wednesday at 02:33 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:33 PM So in the scope of the MLB world, these guys have fallen into obscurity but I'm sure some of the posters on this board who were around in 2004-2005 remember Alex Sanchez and Nook Logan. Both guys were unhumanly fast runners but lacked in just about every other area of the game. So they'd routinely bunt for base hits, leading to teams frantically making wild throws, with Nook and Alex often getting 2 and 3 bases on bunts. Hilarity always ensued in these plays. I think both players got caught using PEDs and each faded into obscurity. Many of these plays where they exploited their speed resulted in plays fit for the blooper reel. I wanted to show some to my son, but I can't find any video on YouTube or anywhere else. Seems they are destined to be forgotten. Do any of you have any memories of Alex and/or Nook? Anybody know of any videos of their Tiger days posted anywhere? 1 Quote
theroundsquare Posted Wednesday at 02:39 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:39 PM I remember both. as i recall, the tigers traded for sanchez from milwaukee shortly after dombrowski arrived/became gm. i saw nook logan when he played for the whitecaps. he was as described. 1 Quote

Was he even real or was it just something we imagined? 1 Quote

oblong Posted Wednesday at 03:04 PM Posted Wednesday at 03:04 PM 2003.... game 161. Tigers at 119 losses. Saturday night. Bottom of the 9th, tie game. Sanchez walks. Steals 2nd. Steals 3rd. Wild pitch, he scores the game winning run to ensure the Tigers won't break the single season losing record. One of the best pre-2006 moments in Comerica Park history. 2 1 Quote

I definitely can relate to finding old videos of great moments. I recently found a video from a game in 1983 where Kirk Gibson hit the ball out of the stadium in one at bat and then tripled (doubled?) and scored and knocked down the umpire in his next at bat. I had been wanting to see that for 40 years. Quote

Hongbit Posted Wednesday at 03:56 PM Posted Wednesday at 03:56 PM He was someone’s base coach right now. Maybe the Cubs Quote
oblong Posted Wednesday at 04:47 PM Posted Wednesday at 04:47 PM I like to say that Berry had the highest Swagger to performance ratio in MLB history. 1 Quote
ben9753 Posted Wednesday at 04:51 PM Posted Wednesday at 04:51 PM Nook Logan was kind of the Chuck Norris meme on the old board. So he'll never be forgotten by us old timers 1 Quote

We do still have some great people here however. Quote
slothfacekilla Posted Wednesday at 06:11 PM Posted Wednesday at 06:11 PM I recall going to a game and Nook was the only Tiger that did anything / got a hit (something along those lines)....very dark times. Quote

theroundsquare Posted Wednesday at 07:32 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:32 PM (edited) yes, it was damp and cold. the night's weather started off decent but deteriorated. i watched much of the game from the concourse holding my then-11 month old son Edited Wednesday at 07:32 PM by theroundsquare 1 Quote

Motor City Sonics Posted yesterday at 02:19 AM Posted yesterday at 02:19 AM Alex Sanchez was super fast, but one of the dumbest baserunners ever. When I think of legends of the past - how about Steven Moya? Man, he was destined for greatness. You know, Moya is only 34. He hit .305 with 25 HR in the Chinese League last year. Maybe? What a comeback that would be. Quote

lordstanley Posted yesterday at 05:11 PM Posted yesterday at 05:11 PM Here's Sanchez bunting for a leadoff, first pitch base hit at the 10min 10s mark. He steals 2nd at the 11min 40s mark. Then at the 1:13:40 mark he bunts in a run home from 3rd base! Quote
lordstanley Posted yesterday at 05:19 PM Posted yesterday at 05:19 PM At 1:03:05 of this clip ESPN's broadcast announces the news that Sanchez tested positive for PEDs. Quote
lordstanley Posted yesterday at 05:25 PM Posted yesterday at 05:25 PM At the 37:55 mark of this clip, Nook Logan is in as a pinch runner for Rondell White. Logan is then called by the color guy "probably the fastest man on the team, for both teams". Logan goes from 1st to 3rd on a single at 39:15. Logan scores at the 42:05 when Brandon Inge beats out a potential double play ball. Quote
lordstanley Posted yesterday at 05:36 PM Posted yesterday at 05:36 PM (edited) Here's Logan beating out an infield hit at 27:24. Rod Allen laughs and says "when you've got that kind of speed, you're going to be rewarded" and adds "I would expect Logan to try to steal here". "If he can master the art of hitting the ball down the ground ... and utilizing his speed, he's going to have a bright future". At 29:10 Logan goes from 1st to 3rd on a single by Polanco to left. Logan scores on a bases loaded sac fly by Craig Monroe at 33:10. At 1:50:45 Logan hits his first of two career home runs, which would be his only one as a Tiger.
