4-0 with Larkin’s ENG. Still 4 minutes to go, but through 56 minutes looking like the most routine Red Wings’ win you’ll ever see.

Maybe one of the more undeserved (other than Gibson). This one could have been about 7-3 Vancouver for all the Wing lapses that Gibson covered. If anything the joke on the Canucks was getting some of those gift turnovers too close to the net to maneuver, allowing Gibson to make the play. Nice to see Solderblom doing well the thing the team needs him to do: puck possession.

Did Gibson actually play well or are the Canucks just the worst team in the league by far?

It was odd. Like others have noted the Canucks did seem to have a lot of chances with Gibson making a lot of good saves, but maybe I'm so jaundiced given how badly the Canucks have been dumped on by fans and media here, as I never really expected the Canucks to convert those chances. I never felt uncomfortable for the Wings. Even though the Wings got decisively outshot, I still felt the Wings were clearly the better team.

I'm pretty dubious about theoretical goals saved / goals expected models but at least this seems like he faced quality chances

The only thing I would say about Gibson's game yesterday is that...

I hope he goes on a nice long streak for the next 4 months with games just like it.

Not all shutouts of course.

But give this team a chance in each game...

Gibson was good. Canucks had a ton of point blank attempts, not necessary all grade A but still otherwise undefended and he managed them all. He let some rebounds get away but he had some luck with that not hurting him. Canucks outplayed the Wings over more than half the game but the Wings executed a couple of very slick plays for their scores. Always good to get a win in the Pacific time zone, but the Wing's inability to clear their own zone against a not very good offensive team was a depressing thing to watch.

As good as Quinn Hughes is...I sincerely hope we aren't trading ASP an Danielson for him

ASP is going to be a good offensive Dman, but less certain he's going to be a great Defensive Dman. For Hughes I'd pull that trigger. I don't want to have to decide what Daneilson is worth yet - just too soon.

Purely off of the awood video it looks like Rasmussen and Soderblom actually had some good moments, winning puck battles and cycling in the offensive zone.

I like that when Sherwood hit Raymond in the head at least a couple Wings approached him and then JVR actually skated hard and threw a big check.  The Wings have to show some sort of fight.

Sherwood may be the Canucks' best player after Hughes, strange but true. Led them in hits last season while putting up 40 points, has 12 goals so far this year. Given that he's a 30 year old journeyman, kinduv depressing for Canucks fans.

me too.  lets not overrate our prospects.  if either of them were going to be quinn hughes, we'd know it already.

just watch hughes move with the puck, he's a dynamic skater.  coffey-esque.

We could look foolish trading both ASP and Danielson but I think they'd have to both develop quite a bit more for that to happen.  ASP is still young, but his play on defense this season leaves a lot to be desired.  Danielson flashes some nice moments but needs to find that consistency against NHLers.  I'm willing to take the chance shipping them both off with picks for someone of Hughes' level of talent.  Honestly having him Seider and Edvinsson sounds like a dream.

I feel like I usually overrate every prospect but I think I do this if Vancouver actually would.

I think this is where I’m at too. Maybe one of them will bloom, but let’s not miss out on a player that is clearly good hoping for a miracle.

Hughes is better than ASP will likely ever be...the guy I'd hate to lose is Danielson.  He's unique in our system because he's a RHC with some size who can skate and has some offensive upside that's already apparent.  We have no one like that other than him

But you have to give to get and it's hard to complain when you wind up with the best player in most trades.  Sure would be nice to give them Kapser instead

i'm going to be sad when he ends up in vegas or florida.

I do think that if there is anyone Yzerman will give his best shot to land it would be Hughes - the local connection, the Larkin connection, still young enough to play a long time, that fact you have young playmaking Dman to give back as at least a piece of the trade.  It all lines up about as well as it can.

and he can probably get him to sign here, that's the big key.
