gehringer_2 Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Still bummed. Hughes seemed like the guy that might have move Yzerman take his shot. Now we are left knowing that even as good a fit as there is out there either a)isn't going to temp Yzerman to make a bold move or b) is going to cost so much he shouldn't make a bold move. Meanwhile the Wings go back to creeping toward respectability. Quote

Hongbit Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Minnesota trading for Hughes without signing him to an extension is either really ballsy or really stupid. We will all find out in a few months. Quote
lordstanley Posted 9 hours ago Author Posted 9 hours ago Doesn't look like Minnesota has a particularly high chance of signing Hughes. I can see him back on the trade market this summer. Multimillion question is how open is Hughes towards playing anywhere other than New Jersey in 2027 Quote

Everyone assumes it's a big deal but is it fact or just assumption? Listening to the Canucks’ press conference yesterday, their conclusion by this fall that Hughes was 100% not going to sign with them was due in large part to Hughes wanting to be back east to be close to his brothers. So question is whether that means only NJ or whether Detroit would be close enough. I like my own brother very much but unless I have a chance to work for the same company as him I couldn’t care less whether he is one province over or three provinces over. Quote

Everyone assumes it's a big deal but is it fact or just assumption? They've explicitly talked about it multiple times and the Vancouver GM straight up came out and said it earlier this season. Here's one quote I found in quick google: "Honestly, I'm not afraid to say it. Eventually I'd love to play with him. And whether that's in New Jersey or at what time that takes, at some point, I want to play with Quinn," he said, via The Athletic. "But yeah, that's the question going around. They talk all day about it up in Vancouver, you know? But yeah, I'd love to play with Quinn at some point." Quote
Shinzaki Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I would not have given up Ed, Kasper and Danielson to get Hughes...even if he agreed to an extension. Quote
buddha Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago i could see both sides, but feel like detroit is better off not giving up edvinsson to meet that price for a guy who may be gone in 2 years. assuming edvinsson re-signs here. Quote

They can't back-fill well enough for Edvinsson to make Hughes enough of an add. Quote
Hongbit Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago There’s a much bigger difference both now and in future potential between Quinn Hughes and Simon Edvinsson than this board is giving credit. That’s not a shot on Simon. He’s good and stands to be really good in the future. Quinn Hughes is a unique talent that has a chance to be one of the all time greats. Quote

Hongbit Posted 23 minutes ago Posted 23 minutes ago (edited) Hughes is either the best or 2nd best defenseman in the league. You are getting a superstar with a chance to be in the lineup for the next 10 years. Kasper and Danielson are still very much prospects. They have much work to do in order to cement their part in the longterm plan. I don’t think you become the Edmonton Oilers by trading them away. Edited 23 minutes ago by Hongbit Quote
