What do they need going into the draft, in my sense of the order of importance:

OT

Safety

Edge

RB

DT

if they do not get players capable of contributing at these positions this year, I feel like they are going to regret it.

Edit: If Arnold is facing jail time, CB probably vaults to the top of the list.

If Armold is suspended by the NFL, does his salary come off the Lions payroll books?

Mock Draft 4.19 ...

9. Arizona Cardinals (Trade w/ KC): Francis Mauigoa, OT, Miami
10. New York Giants: Spencer Fano, OT, Utah
12. Cleveland Browns (Trade w/ DAL): Kadyn Proctor, OT, Alabama
16. New York Jets: Vega Ioane, OG, Penn State
17. Detroit Lions: Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia
21. Pittsburgh Steelers: Blake Miller, OT, Clemson
23. Philadelphia Eagles: Max Iheanachor, OT, Arizona State

...

157. Detroit Lions: Max Llewellyn, EDGE, Iowa ...

Two things to note here:

SIX OT's (and one Lions-type OG in Ioane) taken between picks 9 and 23. I think Brad is going to be able to select the OT that he wants at #17. They're trying to keep their true interest in which guy they like the most "under wraps"... So long as it is NOT Proctor... I'd be good with any of them.

I have a hard time trying to choose a favorite between Fano, Ioane, Freeling, Miller, and Iheanachor (actually, Lomu and Mauigoa too...). So I'm going to be happy if he can get any one of those guys.

2nd: Max Llewyllyn is a pass-rush specialist for anyone who is interested. He doesn't do much against the run at all. He's not fast at 4.80-85 in the 40... But he's a mauling brawling high-energy attack guy so... Might be good enough to have in the rotation. I would prefer Malachi Lawrence and his 4.52 speed in the 40. But I could be OK with a brawler like Llewyllyn. I was constantly grabbing him in my Lions mock drafts so...

Also, he's 6' 5.5" and 260 #'s... maybe the Lions can "coach him up" to also be effective against the run game? He can start out on ST's and in pass-rush sub-packages... and then we could just go from there.

Uhhh... but I still would prefer Malachi "Speed Kills" Lawrence in the 2nd... if he gets to us at 50.

Again, here... at around #50, there are multiple DE's that look like they are in the 2nd round range so hopefully one of them, that Dan loves, slips to 50 or to within close enough range that Brad can move up to grab him if he feels it's necessary.

Just my 2 cents.

Llewyllen is a James Houston type, but with better motor, and I think a higher ceiling as an NFL player.

I think if an EDGE makes sense at #50, Holmes will take him. But he’s a bit cornered into waiting until #50 because he doesn’t have a 3rd. If Colton Hood is still on the board, he’s a prototypical Lions corner. Physical man coverage, sticky downfield, probably going to gain a reputation for DPI and DH amongst officials… but he’d likely be the day one starting nickel and could easily slide to the outside next year if they either cut Reed or if Arnold doesn’t take a step forward.
