2026 NBA Trade Deadline

Figured I would start a separate thread for trade deadline stuff.  It will be for the entire league, not just the Pistons.

Trade deadline is February 5th.  Trades must be submitted to the league office by 3 p.m. ET.  

99% of what's posted here will be complete bull****.  Until it's not.

This is someone's idea, not a rumor.  Swap Ivey with Coby White.

that would indicate that ivey doesnt have a ton of trade value.

while the bulls fo vastly overrate their own talent (look at that patrick williams contract, its a lot of money for what might be the worst regular player in the nba), they've been dangling coby white forever and nobody has took them up on it.  he's an all offense, no defense, shoot first and dont pass guard.  he is very streaky and goes from 40+ to a week of 1-15 on a nightly basis.

did i mention the lack of defense?

in the bulls' annual play-in loss to the heat, he'd had 14 points in 40 minutes, 13 points in 40 minutes, and then shot 5-20 last year.  in other words, he's easy to marginalize and shoots poorly when the other team concentrates on defense.

if i'm dangling ivey, i think the pistons can do better.  if what you desire is offense off the bench, then why not just keep ivey?  if what you want is shooting, he's an upgrade on ivey, but i'm not sure how much of an upgrade.

he's they type of guy who will likely go for a protected first or maybe even a couple seconds.

What do the Pistons need?

1. Secondary scorer to help Cade
2. Backup PG
3. Backup PF

People will say shooting, but meh.  If Cade can figure out his shot, I think they are fine there.  If they do add shooting, it can not be a shooting specialist.  It needs to be someone who does other things.

The Pistons control all of their first round picks through 2032.  They also have a $14.3 million traded player exception they created in the Schroder trade this summer.  TPE's can only be used in trades, no free agents.  It can also be split between multiple players.   It can not be combined in trades with other salary.  So you cant trade Ivey + the TPE.  You can trade the TPE + picks.  

I really doubt he plays in the NBA this year.  But the Pistons still hold Malik Beasley's early Bird rights.  Which means they can sign him for something like $7.2 million.

right, they already have a shooter they have to spend too much time trying to hide in Robinson.  The dream route for this team to a championship was for one of the young athletic guys to develop into a shooter because it would have been pure addition by addition, but having to give up useful assets for a shooter isn't so much fun. Part of what lets the pistons play the way they do is the depth of guys who can run and disrupt so they can keep rotating in and out at high energy. Lose a couple of those guys and there may be a cost you couldn't predict so easily from the stat sheets.

It's a lot harder to see how to thread the needle to improve a 22-6 team than even 44-38 one.

hopefully you can get a player who helps with 2 of those 3 criteria.

i see them nibbling around the margins moreso than making a huge splash.  not sure they can beat another contender's offer for the most prized assets.  other teams hold more valuable draft assets, and players who arent about to become very expensive (duren and ivey).

I would be more interested in Andrew Nembhard than Coby White.

Little iffy on the 3... but better defense, and a much better Assist to TO ratio...

I don't see any scenario where Indiana trades Nembhard.  It would take an extreme overpay IMO.

The situation with Ivey is just bad. I don't think you can pay a guy whose projection is still a near total unknown. If he eventually turns into a good player with another team, that's tough luck but I don't see how the Pistons can spend significant $ on him.

Can't.

They have to hope someone wants to take that chance...

I would imagine that he will be cheap next year. Sign some sort of short-term (1/ 2/ 3) year contract to (hopefully for him) build up some actual play-level value.

So trade him for whatever we can get... which hopefully is better than a bag of balls.

I still have it my mind that someone is going to be willing to take that chance...

But I don't know whom that might be.

A losing team with a rotation vet (old guy) that fits/works for us better than Ivey does...

Outside of a second scorer to help Cade, I want them to focus on getting a couple 2-way players. The odds of getting a second scorer who can also defend are slim, because those are All-Stars, so I won't put that requirement on that slot. However, any other slot you're trying to fill I'm looking for "3 and D" at a minimum for me to consider the trade. No more role players who play great D but can't shoot or guys who can shoot while getting targeted every play on the other end like Duncan.

Vecenie has his top 40 trade article out for The Athletic. He has Det as good fits for AD, Dosunmu, McCollum and Schroder.

I know there are a lot of opinions about him, and no idea what LAC are doing as their lottery pick goes to OKC, but John Collins could give the bench some scoring punch.

could audition him as a future replacement for Tobias (5 years younger)
