The defense on this US team is amazing. Judge looked like Al Kaline throwing a BB to gun a runner out at 3rd base from RF. And Bobby Witt Jr really flashing some leather.

I was there! Great plays by both sides, including two right field assists and two diving Bobby Witt infield assists.

We have another 13 of these spring training games to go… and there’s a couple off days sandwiched in. And there’s three weeks between now and when we play the Padres in San Diego. The winter of our discontent continues until then.

Two weeks and two days. Don’t make it any longer than it has to be. 😉

Is it Parker Meadows vs. Kevin McGonigle ?    or McGonigle vs. Perez?

IMO, if Parker is sent down, he will be brought back up if he ever starts hitting. That speed and defense is really hard to replace. An effective Parker makes the Tigers a much better team. So maybe the right question is what to do with Javy? A very expensive utility player? I mean, he can give you (way above) average defense at multiple positions.

Sweeney has been optioned to Toledo, would they have to recall him to move him to the 60? I guess it may not make any difference roster wise to the Tigers but it could  to his paycheck.

EDIT: Just saw on Tigers MLB page that Brieske is scheduled to throw a sim game today.

Brieske threw in his sim game today. SGL threw a BP.

Depth is good.

So the Tigers actually win a game 7–2 - against the Red Sox - instead of losing or tying, which is OK but in the big picture pretty meaningless.

Try to explain to someone time traveling from 400 years ago to our current time or from one of the planes of existence where they do not play baseball, anything about this particular spring training year with the WBC and you are likely to get them shrieking and holding a silver totem of their religion up to bane you away.

"Away DEVIL! with your baleful talk of diverting star players to play for the princelings of nationstates which do not yet exist! And for what?!  To risk their very wellfulness to the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune!"

and they were pretty terrible. Their run down on the Blue Jays was about the only thing of any value they offered.

The Red Sox announcers were pretty disinterested in the game, and I don’t really blame them, but still it didn’t feel like they were doing their job which should’ve been more than just chitchating about other stuff.

Max Clark gets reassigned to minor league camp. He went 2 for 18 and 0-13 in his last seven games. But yeah, spring stats don't matter. Right, KMac? 😆😆

Do you think you are making some point? Valencia hit .353 and got sent back. Clark wasn't making the team no matter what he hit. They want the younger guys playing full time in minor league camp, and there isn't enough playing time anymore for the younger guys in the big camp as they ramp up for opening day. You can't read any more into it than that.

He was clearly not quite ready.   That said I'd not be shocked to see Clark patrolling CF in Comerica on a regular basis this September.

I'm getting young Gabe Kapler vibes from him.   Remember when Gabe was a prospect - he had some sort of website (they were new then) calling him a "future Hall Of Fame" player with a shirtless picture of him.    The Tiger strength and conditioning coach had that statement and picture blown up into a big banner at Spring Training to humble him a little.    I certainly hope it goes better going forward, but this guy needs a little ego deflation -- especially in this sport.     I also seem to remember "The Little Unit" Ryan Anderson bragging about striking out Ken Griffey Jr. and Edgar Martinez in practices and those guys giving him a box of baseballs to sign as a way of mocking him.  His ego was out of control too.  Never pitched in the Majors.  Was trending that way when injuries and ignoring advice derailed him.   He's a chef now, I believe.

Valencia is a catcher. The Tigers dont need a catcher. The Tigers DO need a CF who can hit. Clark needs seasoning

Agreed. He definitely has a bright future. And we need a CF who can hit.

maybe the difference is that from all reports, Max is a very likeable kid, that it's more a matter of him trying to have fun with it than the kind of ego trip Kapler was. But time will tell.

I am a lot more concerned about his bat stalling out than that his personality is going to hurt him

It wasn't the stats.  It was the chains!😀

He's not ready, and if he'd hit .500 in spring training, he'd still not be ready.

If he was hitting .500 and could catch the ball, he would still be in camp. A good example is McGonigle....he's on the verge of heading north with the big league club. Is HE ready? I mean, even Jung is still here and he doesn't even play a position of need.

Third base is not a position of need?

Talent matters, ability matters, developmental progress matters, performance matters. Spring training stats don't matter. Can they be an indicator? Sure, but small samples are notoriously unreliable, especially in an uneven environment like spring training.

Nobody ever makes a team with a strong spring...OK. 👍
