Carpenter brings his .091 average to the spot in the order that is reserved for the best hitter on the team.............

Maybe he'll run into one today.

He ran one into the wall.  I think I saw it flinch and shed a tear.

I’ve had one fish sandwich and a near beer so far today.  I’m going to go out on a limb and say I will not accomplish the 9/9/9.  I hope you all took the under.

I don’t think it’s any secret how much I prefer hearing the audio overlay over the video, not necessarily because I don’t like Benetti, but because Dan Dicerkson is so much better. Plus, I am not a fan of having guests show up in the booth for an inning or more, no matter who it is.

There have been synching issues between radio audio and TV video mismatches in the past seasons, but this season seems as though it’s the worst it’s ever been. The pitches on the radio overlay were running three to five seconds ahead of the video in both San Diego and Phoenix, and I figured it would get fixed in Detroit.

Nope—same issue.

How many years has this been going on? Five, maybe? Seems like it’s been at least that many seasons we’ve been talking about this. And they still don’t have it fixed? It makes no sense that the technical crew at the Tigers would be so incompetent that they can’t fix the synching between the audio and the video after five freaking years.

So now we have to ask the question, are they actually doing this on purpose? Yeah, I know how dumb that sounds. But what else would explain their inability to fix the syncing issues between radio overlay and TV video after five or more years? It can;t be sheer incompetence or ignorance of the issue, can it?

Perhaps there’s some business reason it’s advantageous to mismatch the radio overlay with the TV video. I can’t think of what that advantage might be, but I also can’t conceive of any other reason they would allow this to happen, because they certainly can’t be so incompetent and clueless that they’re not even aware of the issue. They know it’s happening. We have the technology to fix it. So why are they refusing to fix it?

Do people give Masyn Wynn as hard of a time for all his big chains as they do a Max Clark?

Max Clark sure does do a lot of things that show him in a bad light.  He's like a double dose of Bryce Harper/Jose Canseco douchebaggery.  Showing off wads of $100 bills on Instagram?  He'll be that guy who gets scammed out of money and will be homeless by the time he is 35.

A Cardinal named Pozo? I wonder what kids called him growing up? Do kids even know who Bozo is anymore?

I can tell you with certainty they do not, because at some point last year after one of our softball games, I name-checked Bozo for its comic value during some repartee with my much younger teammates, and their vacant stares and/or rolling eyes told me that they had no idea. Then I asked them, do you even know who Bozo the Clown is? And one guy, I’ll never forget this, he replied, uhhhhh, nooooo—is “Bozo the Clown” in the room with us now, Grandpa? You know, like I was hallucinating. And I had to laugh at that, because it was really pretty funny in the moment.

This is the inning that the Tigers take the lead.  Y’all can thank me now or later, whichever works for you.

Javy with an awful slide

Exactly, ‘twasn’t my fault.

For as good a slider as Baez is, that was one of the worst slide decisions I think I have made him see as a Tiger.

Look, we gotta give credit on the throw, too.

A beautiful 70 degree Opening Day.  What’s with all of the empties behind the plate?

They’re stupidly expensive and all of the people that have those seats aren’t actual fans and are somewhere else in the stadium drinking

Haven't seen Brandon Inge in a long time and to see him suddenly middle-aged and looking every bit of it is a little shocking.

Can't really say why but Inge was one of my least favorite Tigers of all time.   Just never warmed up to him.

Why did he use his pitching hand to try to catch that toss from Tork? Not only did he endanger the fingers, which we see right now, but it’s objectively harder to catch a ball while moving with two hands than with one glove, even having to cross over with the glove hand to catch it. It was an asinine decision in the moment.

Of course, give credit to the right fielder on the throw, and credit to the catcher on the catch and tag. Also, debit to Baez for not sliding head first and slapping the plate with his hand, which, had he done, he would totally have been safe.

Because remember, this is the guy who basically invented the swim move. There’s no excuse that can exonerate him here.

It looked like he took his eyes off of the ball and to find the base.  I think he had his pitching hand up by his glove, maybe instinctively, and the ball and glove just weren’t in sync with each other.

I have been repeatedly assured that empty seats behind the plate means nothing in terms of optics.

No, not saying Baez couldn’t have taken a better approach at the plate.  That throw from RF made it close enough to be a play.  If not for that, we’re not worried about how Baez touches the plate.
