If you can trade Jahmai for a PTBNL I think you could dump Vierling or McKinstry (two players who at least can fill a roster spot and not hurt you) for nothing also. Vierling is currently needed in CF, but if Clark is ready, then Vierling becomes very expendable. That might be the move. Quote

I do not know Troy Watson's minor league split, but am assuming given how quickly he signed that it was relatively healthy and more than the 40 man minimum. Adding him to the 40-man roster adds about $70k to the number. I will get a precise split for him soon. In the meantime, I have the number as $245,777,731.77. If Mize has to go on the IL, that will only go up unless Brieske is the move. Quote

If they could move Flaherty and his, what, $20 million contract? Having Jobe and Montero filling in could make up his innings and would probably be more consistent than Jack. Each of these guys provides a function that is basically commensurate with the salary being paid. Someone can use one of them. Just last year Harris traded nothing in return for mediocre/ bad dudes and took on all the salary so he didn’t have to give up anything. That’s standard operating practice. My guess is that they are waiting until right up to the deadline to make the specific call on which guy to dump. Obviously if they tank this next week and become sellers and it doesn’t matter. Quote
